Sasa Kalajdzic promises to keep John Brooks and Co. busy when VfB Stuttgart hosts high-flying Wolfsburg on Wednesday. Read our reasons for Stuttgart vs Wolfsburg prediction and betting tips.
Stuttgart’s 14-goal top scorer Kalajdzic drew a – by his recent high standards – rare blank on Saturday as VfB were beaten 2-1 away at Union Berlin, but the tallest player in the Bundesliga did get the assist for Philipp Förster’s second-half consolation. The biggest team news from that game was the absence of left wing-back Borna Sosa with a knee problem. The Croatian is the team’s top provider with nine assists, of which five have been for Kalajdzic to put away with his head, but it remains to be seen if he’ll make it in time for part two of this Englische Woche. Defeat at the weekend leaves Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side in 10th but still in with an outside chance of European qualification in their first season back in the top flight. A positive result will see them move back into the top half given Freiburg’s match with Hertha Berlin is postponed. However, the promoted team is without Konstantinos Mavropanos as he serves a suspension for five yellow cards. Stuttgart is the only team with two players inside the top eight of this season's Bundesliga scoring charts: Kalajdzic is joint-fifth on 14 goals, while Silas Wamangituka is eighth on 11 goals.
Stuttgart: Kobel - Karazor, Anton, Kempf - Massimo, Endo, Castro (c), Coulibaly - Förster, Klimowicz - Kalajdzic
Out: Al Ghaddioui (ankle), Gonzalez (thigh), Mangala (thigh), Mavropanos (suspended), Mola (hip), Silas (knee)
Doubtful: Cisse (knee), Egloff (ankle), Sosa (knee)
Coach: Pellegrino Matarazzo
Sitting third, Wolfsburg holds a five-point advantage over fifth-placed Borussia Dortmund with five games to go. A first UEFA Champions League qualification since they finished Bundesliga runners-up in 2014/15 is well within their sights, despite a tight 3-2 defeat at home to leaders Bayern Munich at the weekend – their first defeat of the season at the Volkswagen Arena and the first time they’ve lost two in a row in 2020/21. Wout Weghorst continued his personal-best scoring campaign by notching his 19th goal and will lead the line as he always does. Wolfsburg's top scorer Weghorst is enjoying his most prolific season with the club, and his strike against Bayern took him to a career-best tally of 19 goals (he netted 18 for AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch Eredivisie in 2017/18). The Dutchman has racked up five goals and four assists in his last six Bundesliga outings. Oliver Glasner does have to make changes elsewhere, though. Full-backs Kevin Mbabu and Paulo Otavio are suspended, so Ridle Baku will drop back and Jerome Roussillon will come in alongside left center-back Brooks in the defense. Playmaker Maximilian Arnold will return after he served his one-match ban. Josip Brekalo is the likely contender for the winger spot vacated by Baku’s reshuffle.
Wolfsburg: Casteels (c) - Baku, Lacroix, Brooks, Roussillon - Schlager, Arnold - Brekalo, Gerhardt, Philipp - Weghorst
Out: Guilavogui (groin), Mbabu (suspended), Otavio (suspended), Steffen (ankle)
Doubtful: -
Coach: Oliver Glasner

Wolfsburg is on course for their highest Bundesliga finish since 2014/15, when they were runners-up behind Bayern. That was also the last time they qualified for the Champions League. BettingKick’s Stuttgart vs Wolfsburg is: Both teams to score.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
