SWANSEA VS BARNSLEY MATCH ANALYSIS
After losing 2-0 to reinvigorated Derby in midweek, Swansea dropped one place down the standings to 4th with 33 points from their first 19 league fixtures. They are four points from the top but can overtake Bournemouth in second if the results go their way this weekend. As for the visitors, after picking up their third straight win against Preston on Tuesday (2-1), they have climbed up to 12th place with 28 points. After not winning any of their first seven fixtures they have now won eight in their last 12 games (L4).
Swansea have done brilliantly under Steve Cooper in his first managerial job despite limited resources and a small squad. They are where they want to be – in the play-offs contention. The Welsh team have lost four matches since a defeat in the last season's play-offs, which is impressive in its own right. They still continue to look like a team capable of mounting another play-off push, despite producing one of their worst performances of the season at Derby in midweek.
However, Swansea’s defeat to lowly Derby in midweek will really sting as they are now closer to falling out of the top six than breaking into the two automatic promotion positions. The Rams remain in the Championship's bottom three despite extending their unbeaten run since Rooney was made interim head coach to six games, but they outplayed a Swansea side who are usually hard to beat. Swansea were two goals down at the half-time and never looked like denying Derby a first Pride Park victory since June.
After miraculously escaping the relegation on the final day of the last season, Barnsly have started this new campaign in the same vein, as they had been sitting near the relegation zone for a while. However, the signs have been encouraging for them lately, as the Tykes have been beaten only four times in their last twelve games (W8). It looks like Valerien Ismael has steadied the ship as they have now gone from relegation candidates to play-off hopefuls after recording their third win on the trot against Preston.
Sean Maguire put North End ahead inside two minutes on Tuesday, but the Tykes leveled after the interval as captain Alex Mowatt curled home from long range. Victor Adeboyejo then scored late with 10 minutes to go to complete the turnaround for the hosts. Barnsley last won four games in a row in 2013, but the Swans are ill-suited to Barnsley’s style of play, so the win may not come that easy.

Swansea have not lost to Barnsley in their last 11 fixtures, since their last defeat in the 2006 Championship playoffs. Also, the Swans have not lost at home to the Tykes since 1974 when both were competing in the old Division 4.
Swansea are unbeaten in their last six home league games (W4 D2), keeping a clean sheet in five of these games, and will be motivated to bounce back after their loss in the East Midlands.
On the other hand, Barnsley will be without centre-back Aapo Halme, but with Barnsley being brilliant since the arrival of Ismael, it should dent their hopes of getting something at the Liberty Stadium.
