The first leg of the first Championship play-off tie kicks off at 6.30pm (UK) on Sunday 26 July, when Swansea host Brentford at the Liberty Stadium.
Before football resumed, who could have envisioned Swansea sneaking in into play-offs, and Nottingham Forest missing out on it? Well, after an impressive win against a ten-men Reading (1:4) on the final day, Welsh side snatched the sixth place to clinch a play-off spot, and edged out Nottingham Forest on goal difference, after Forest's shocking defeat at home to Stoke (1:4) at the City Ground. It just confirms the fact that Championship is worthy of its reputation for unpredictability and drama. Swansea now face Brentford in a two-legged semi-final.
Brentford have also played their part in a dramatic finish to the regular season. Had they won against Barnsley on the final day (1:2), they would have secured promotion. Failing to do so, means that they will now have to take additional step on their way to Premier League. The aforementioned loss could prove to be a big chip on their shoulders, and a psychological burden coming into this game, but their winning record after restart - W7,L2 - should instil them with the belief and much needed confidence at the start of this play-off tie.
SWANSEA VS BRENTFORD MATCH ANALYSIS
The chase for the final two places in the play-offs was supposed to be the least exciting part of the final round. Nottingham Forest and Cardiff were pretty much there, and Swansea were the outsiders. But it all went quite the opposite way from there. Steve Cooper's men needed a win and a six-goal swing to make it into the top six, and were relying on already safe Stoke's help against Forest. The Potters somehow did just that.
For Swansea,Wayne Routlidge is probably set to start after his double against Reading, but the manager may not want to change the starting eleven after such a terrific performance. In other team news, Kyle Naughton is suspended for the first leg, and first-choice goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is still out with a hip injury.
Brentford squandered two golden opportunities to finish above West Brom, as they needed four points from their final two games of the season, but their back-to-back defeats against Stoke and Barnsey cost them the promotion. Brentford were the Championship's top-scoring side heading into this game (80), but they had hard times creating chances against a hard-to-break Barnsley side who pressed really well.
The Bees had eight consecutive victories, before the final two games, but that won't matter much in the play-offs. Thomas Frank could recall the central midfielder Mathias Jensenhoping to the starting XI for the first leg at the Liberty stadium, but otherwise, the line-up should largely be left unchanged.

The Swans lost just one match in seven games, prior to the play-off and are heading into this contest brimming with confidence, but Thomas Frank's men are still overwhelming favourites in this tie, if they could turn the tables round and get rid of the negativity that surrounds them at the moment. Swansea and Brentford's last five head-to-head games have seen over 2.5 goals, but the teams might be little too cautious when the play-off starts.
