Swansea host Brentford at the Liberty Stadium (Swansea) in the rescheduled Round 20 in the Championship and the match kicks off at 7 pm (UK) on Wednesday, January 27.
SWANSEA VS BRENTFORD MATCH ANALYSIS
Swansea currently sit in 2nd place after winning four of their last five Championship fixtures. They are unbeaten in seven in all competitions (D1) after securing their place in the Round 5 of the FA Cup with a 5-1 win against Notts Forest. They are seven points behind leaders Norwich and need a win here to keep their automatic promotion place. Brentford, on the other hand, are on a terrific run of their own – they are unbeaten in 16 matches in the second tier (W9, D7) – and have suffered only two defeats in that span, all in domestic cups. They lost to Tottenham in the League Cup on January 5 and were beaten by Leicester at home (3-1) in their fourth-round FA Cup tie on Sunday.
Swansea have done brilliantly under Steve Cooper in his first managerial job despite limited resources and a small squad. They are where they want to be – in the play-offs contention. The Welsh team have lost four matches since a defeat in the last season's play-offs, which is impressive in its own right. After their 0-0 blip against another play-off hopefuls Reading on December 30, they continue to look like a team capable of mounting another promotion push.
Cooper has continued to work wonders at the Liberty Stadium, following 13 points from five games in the second tier with a convincing win over Notts Forest in the FA Cup but promotion remains a priority for a club that will be braced for the competition from several teams below them, including the next visitors to their South Wales home. Nevertheless, Cooper would have taken satisfaction from how some of his squad players impressed against Forest as everything seems to be heading in the right direction for Swansea at this stage of the season.
Brentford, on the other hand, have been impressive in the Championship so far. The Bees sit 4th in the standings and could leapfrog their Wednesday’s hosts with a win here. They are among the favorites for automatic promotion to the top-flight, having narrowly missed out last season. Thomas Frank’s side are right in the hunt for automatic promotion this time around, taking a 16-match (W9, D7) unbeaten run in the league into the midweek’s clash with Swansea.
While Thomas Frank will be disappointed with cup defeats against Tottenham and Leicester, the Brentford boss will be happy to focus his attention on the league. After an indifferent start to the campaign, the Bees have made a complete turnaround and have a game in hand, to boot. Frank will be the first to admit that it will count for nothing if they lose out on Wednesday night, but the team, who have shown few signs of losing in the league since October, should be extra motivated ahead of this match.

After a run of five league wins in a row against Brentford between 2006-2019, Swansea are winless in their last three against the Bees (D1 L2). The reverse fixture in London in November ended in a 1-1 draw and Brentford are hoping to secure back-to-back away league wins at Swansea for the first time since 1934, after a 3-0 win in this exact fixture last season.
As things stand coming into this match, Swansea will feel that an extra day of rest could make all the difference in a game of this importance. However, we cannot ignore Brentford's unbeaten run, so we expect an entertaining encounter above all.
