Swansea host Cardiff at the Liberty Stadium (Swansea) in the 38th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 5.30 pm (UK) on Saturday, March 20. Read our reasons for Swansea vs Cardiff prediction and betting tips.
Swansea’s promotion hopes took another dent on Tuesday night after they were thumped 3-0 away at Jonathan Woodgate’s Bournemouth. However, the Swans are one of a number of teams still in realistic contention of securing a second place and were on a four-game unbeaten run (W3, D1) heading into the clash with the Cherries at the Vitality Stadium. If you are a Cardiff fan, it would be pretty easy to feel a little down about your side's play-off chances after Tuesday's goalless stalemate against Stoke. It saw Cardiff drop to ninth in the table, six points away from a play-off spot. With nine games to go, that now looks a tall order
Now, the second South Wales derby of the season is nearly upon us, with Swansea looking to become the first team in history to complete a league double in this fixture. Swansea were superb during the first encounter at Cardiff City Stadium earlier in the season and will be looking for a similar performance to provide a welcome tonic to midweek’s disappointing Bournemouth defeat. If history and bragging rights weren't enough, a Swansea win would also keep their push for promotion on course.
Nevertheless, there are several key concerns and questions for boss Steve Cooper to ponder ahead of this weekend. There’s Jamal Lowe's inability to rediscover that earlier form and the issue of not scoring enough goals, but defensively they've been rock solid. It's for that exact reason that the defeat at the hands of Bournemouth will be of such concern after they’d been undone by some uncharacteristically dire defending. Nevertheless, this is a chance to write themselves into the history books, a prospect that brings with it a unique sense of pressure.
The Swans’ win in the Welsh capital back in December halted Cardiff's run of five wins on the bounce and signaled the beginning of the end for Neil Harris in many ways. However, months later, Cardiff are in a far better place under Mick McCarthy. He has steered City up to within punching distance of the play-offs, and after three games without a win (D2, L1), the Bluebirds will do their utmost to get back to winning ways.
We all knew that the previous two games and the South Wales derby this weekend would be the big tests and a win in the derby can really reignite the spark. It's the sort of game that can pump momentum back into a team's legs. Let's not forget, this is a Cardiff side who have lost only one game in 12, that is a pretty excellent record. The bubble might have burst with the end of the unbeaten run, but there is nothing to say that the Bluebirds cannot do it again in the coming weeks.

Swansea meet Cardiff previously unbeaten in their last four league games against the Bluebirds (W3 D1), and have only enjoyed a longer run once, going seven unbeaten between 1997 and 2009. The hosts have only lost one of their last 15 league games on home soil, winning 10 times in this run (D4) and have kept more home clean sheets than any other Championship team this season (11).
Meanwhile, Cardiff are unbeaten in their last seven away league games (W4, D3), they last had a longer such run in February 2013 (9), while Mick McCarthy is looking to become the first Cardiff manager to win his first away league match against Swansea since Russell Osman in 1996-97.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
