Swansea host Preston at the Liberty Stadium (Swansea) in the 40th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Monday, April 5. Read our reasons for Swansea vs Preston prediction and betting tips.
For the first time since he was appointed back in the summer of 2019, the Swans have lost three straight games under Steve Cooper. After a 1-0 defeat at Birmingham, their early momentum has quickly dwindled, and now it looks as though they could drop right out of play-off contention altogether. They are still sat 3rd in the table, six points above 6th-placed Reading, but have to stop the rot before it’s too late. Meanwhile, Brad Potts' last-gasp strike saw Preston draw 1-1 with leaders Norwich on Good Friday to earn a crucial point in their bid to secure safety. They are now in 17th, 10 points from Rotherham, who have four games in hand in 22nd place.
The game in Birmingham was so uninspiring it’s hardly worthy of note, a Freddie Woodman penalty save, blasted straight at him in the first half, and a desperate dive to save a second penalty was the only credible action deserving of praise. It’s been now three games where the Swans have failed to find the net, failed to find any points, failed to find shots on target, and also, quite often, failed to find their own men with even the simplest of passes. Steve Cooper’s side have become absolutely predictable.
Defeats to Huddersfield, Bristol, Bournemouth, Cardiff, and now Birmingham say it all. Half of their defeats this season had come in the last nine games as had half the goals the Swans have conceded. Steve Cooper has turned this side negative and now not only are they not pleasant to watch but are not even grinding out the results that could give some comfort. Watford has now pulled nine points clear in 2nd, automatic promotion is out of sight, and with eight games remaining it would be a massive meltdown for them to drop out of play-offs completely.
As for Preston, there was almost a sense of excitement coming into this game after a disappointing season. There was optimism amongst some fans as a new era began under caretaker Frankie McAvoy. Norwich were always going to provide stern opposition, but with some key players missing for the Canaries, it was felt there was an opportunity for North End to grab something from the game, and in the 95th minute they duly did. A point in McAvoy’s first game in charge gives them something to build on.
McAvoy likes the narrow 4-1-3-2 formation and under him Preston should always focus firstly on what they are good at over the opposition. Friday wasn't a perfect performance, there were ugly moments and the last 20 minutes - the goal aside - were rather poor, but there were also some encouraging signs for sure. Tough games are ahead, but If the Lillywhites can do it against the league leaders then they can do it against anyone. The togetherness is there and though it’s hard to say at this stage how much McAvoy has changed, there was more belief on Friday.

Swansea meet Preston being unbeaten in their last 19 home matches against the North End (W14, D5) since a 2-1 defeat all the way back in 1961. The Swans can also do a double over the Lillywhites after celebrating a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture in September. Moreover, Preston have lost their last seven away matches against Swansea in all competitions.
Since the Swans have won each of their last four matches played on Easter Monday - while Preston have lost each of their last three such games - we believe Steve Cooper can find a way to shake off the negativity surrounding his side and get back to winning ways.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
