Swansea host Sheffield Utd at the Swansea.com Stadium (Swansea) in the 2nd round of the 2021/22 Championship season and the match kicks off at 8 pm (UK) on Saturday, August 14. Read our reasons for Swansea vs Sheffield Utd prediction and betting tips.
SWANSEA VS SHEFFIELD UTD: STATS & FACTS
Swansea City lost 2-1 to Blackburn in their Championship season opener, but the Swans haven’t started a league campaign with consecutive losses since 2013/14 though, which will be heartening for new manager Russell Martin, who tasted his first Swansea win in the EFL Cup during midweek. With his side recording three straight league wins over Sheffield Utd too, the H2H record points to a change in fortunes for the hosts here. As for the Blades, United fans will be hoping new boss Slaviša Jokanović can turn around their recent poor form vs Swansea, which has seen them fail to win any of their last seven away league H2Hs. To pile on even more pressure, the Blades haven’t won their first away league match since 2011/12, and incredibly, have won just two such fixtures in 31 attempts.
SWANSEA VS SHEFFIELD UTD: PRE-MATCH TALK
Swansea won for the first time under Russell Martin as they cruised into the EFL Cup second round thanks to a 3-0 victory at Reading. Martin's team were beaten at Blackburn on the opening day of the season. But Swansea eased past a youthful Reading side thanks to goals from Latibeaudiere, Ben Cabango and Joel Piroe. Tuesday’s comfortable 3-0 victory at Reading in the Carabao Cup will have boosted morale, but the Royals did field a very young side. However, a win is a win, and an impressive one for that matter.
As for the Blades, they were expected to hit the ground running on their Championship return but were shocked last weekend as a Maxime Colin header sealed a 1-0 win for Lee Bowyer's Birmingham side at Brammall Lane. Slavisa Jokanovic's side will now fancy their chances in south Wales after winning their midweek Carabao Cup game, when Rhian Brewster ended his long wait for his first Sheffield Utd goal. They are now looking to win at Swansea after having won none of their last seven away league games there (D2 L5) since 1958.
SWANSEA VS SHEFFIELD UTD: TEAM NEWS
Russell Martin is likely to hand a start to midfielder Jay Fulton, who missed the opening day after he was sent off in last season's playoff final, but the new Swansea manager has revealed Liam Walsh and Korey Smith will both miss out this weekend. Jamie Paterson will keep his place though after scoring on his league debut last weekend, while Morgan Whittaker impressed in the Carabao Cup in midweek and could replace Liam Cullen up top.
Elsewhere, Slavisa Jokanovic is expecting Rolando Vieira to become his first United signing on a season-long loan from Sampdoria. Jokanovic confirmed he's hoping to have the former Leeds United man in his squad after facing Swansea City and believes the midfielder will add a new dimension to the Blades’ midfield. Otherwise, Rhian Brewster could replace Lys Mousset on the right side of the front three. Billy Sharp and Oliver McBurnie both continue to rebuild their fitness, while centre-back Jack O'Connell and left-back Enda Stevens are both confirmed absentees.

Sheffield Utd received a wake-up call when upset by Birmingham but can kick-start their Championship campaign by winning at Swansea. The Welsh outfit looked disjointed during Russell Martin’s first league game in charge and may take time to adjust to adventurous new tactics. We’re backing the Blades to prevail at Liberty Stadium and the BettingKick’s Swansea vs Sheffield Utd prediction is Sheffield Utd win.
