Swansea host Stoke at the Swansea.com Stadium (Swansea) in the 3rd round of the 2021/22 Championship season and the match kicks off at 8 pm (UK) on Tuesday, August 17. Read our reasons for Swansea vs Stoke prediction and betting tips.
SWANSEA VS STOKE: STATS & FACTS
None of the last 10 league meetings between Swansea and Stoke have ended as a draw, with four Swansea wins and six Stoke wins in this sequence. Interestingly, the last seven league head-to-heads between Swansea and Stoke at Liberty Stadium have alternated between a Swans win and a Potters victory – last season’s meeting was a 2-0 win for Swansea. Swansea have only won twice in their last 12 league games played on a Tuesday (W2, D7, L3), with one of those two wins coming against Stoke in October 2020 (2-0). Stoke are unbeaten in their last five league games on a Tuesday, although four of those five games ended level.
SWANSEA VS STOKE: PRE-MATCH TALK
Swansea opened the Swansea.com Stadium era last night with a 0-0 draw at home to Sheffield Utd in a game with few chances for either side but a first league point for Russell Martin since his move to South Wales. Swansea's need for a new striker was more obvious than ever after Russell Martin’s home side bossed the ball – they had 65 percent of it in the first half – but failed to match their neat and tidy passing with a cutting edge in attack. Martin would have been pleased with his team’s ability to keep hold of the ball, but he will also know he needs a finisher at the top end of the pitch as they are yet to win in the Championship this season.
Meanwhile, Stoke maintained their unbeaten start to the season as they played out a goalless draw against Birmingham at St Andrew's. The Potters came into the game after a positive first week of the season, winning their league opener and making progress in the EFL Cup. However, even though Stoke had found the net five times in their opening two matches they failed to trouble Sarkic meaning they have not won away to Birmingham in 13 visits now. It wasn’t a dream afternoon for the near-2,000 supporters but the Potters have a chance to make it up for the travelling fans at Swansea away in mid-week up next.
SWANSEA VS STOKE: TEAM NEWS
Martin singled out Latibeaudiere, Ryan Manning and Brandon Cooper for particular praise against Sheffield Utd. Latibeaudiere has featured in an unfamiliar role of wing-back in the last two games, while Manning started at centre-back and excelled alongside composed academy product Cooper. With a number of players absent through injury and suspension, Swans boss Martin could not fault the efforts of his squad and believes there is plenty more to come after performing strongly against a side many are backing for an immediate return to the Premier League.
As for Stoke, Souttar, back in the middle of the defensive line, is literally central to Potters’ plan. He’s the tone-setter and he was looking intimidatingly hard to beat as well as feeding the ball forward at the weekend. No Mario Vrancic meant that Sam Clucas was restored to midfield alongside Joe Allen and Nick Powell. On paper, it’s a nice right, left fit but it didn’t quite all knit together in practice. It will be interesting to see if O’Neill keeps faith and believes it will in time or whether a different type of midfielder can make the team gel better.

The Welsh outfit looked disjointed during Russell Martin’s first two league games in charge and may take time to adjust to adventurous new tactics. Michael O'Neill will rejoice at that and hope for a precious away win on Tuesday evening. We expect the Potters to prevail but the clubs could easily share the spoils, as well. That’s why BettingKick’s Swansea vs Stoke prediction sticks with under 2.5 goals!
