SWANSEA VS WATFORD MATCH ANALYSIS
Swansea come into this match on the back of a convincing 2-0 win against QPR in London and a goalless draw against Reading at home. The hosts are third in the Championship standings with 40 points, while the visitors Watford are in 5th. Just three points separate these two sides heading into their first 2021 game in South Wales. Watford, however, come into this game on the back of a 1-0 win against leaders Norwich at the Vicarage Road, in Spaniard Xisco Munoz’s first game in charge of the Hornets after coach Vladimir Ivic got the sack.
Swansea have done brilliantly under Steve Cooper in his first managerial job despite limited resources and a small squad. They are where they want to be – in the play-offs contention. The Welsh team have lost four matches since a defeat in the last season's play-offs, which is impressive in its own right. Despite their 0-0 draw against another play-off hopefuls Reading in midweek, they continue to look like a team capable of mounting another play-off push.
As for Wednesday’s game, the Swans were forced to settle for a point as they failed to break down fellow Championship promotion candidates Reading. Steve Cooper's side played some pretty football but could not conjure enough quality in the final third to claim victory. Swansea, who slipped to third after Brentford's win over Bournemouth, will be frustrated to have missed a chance to close the gap on leaders Norwich to just two points. They just could not find the decisive goal their performance deserved.
The Hornets, on the other hand, are definitely looking to get back to top-flight immediately and are hoping that a change of managers will galvanize the squad as Vladimir Ivic was sacked after his side’s 2-0 defeat at mid-table Huddersfield just four months into his reign. The Hornets have been doing alright, having in mind the injury problems they had, but it was not enough for Ivic to keep his job. They have taken a few steps back in the race for automatic promotion lately, but are right back on track with a home win against the leaders.
Last Saturday Ismaila Sarr got new Watford head coach Xisco Munoz off to the perfect start with a winning goal that ended Championship leaders Norwich City's five-game winning run. Munoz, who was appointed last Sunday, was in the Hornets dugout for the first time and watched on as his team produced one of their best displays of the season so far. Watford created by far the best chances of the contest and the victory lifts them up to fifth in the table, four points off the automatic promotion places.

Swansea and Watford last faced off in league action during the 2017-18 Premier League season, when both sides lost their home games 1-2.
The Swans have the best defensive record in the EFL - this was their 13th clean sheet in 22 league games this season and have been highly impressive under the management of Steve Cooper. His talented young squad is third in the league table, with the likes of Connor Roberts, Marc Guehi, and Jamal Lowe all in good form.
New Watford coach Munoz has enjoyed a bright start to his Watford reign, with a win over league leaders, but even though they have a strong squad, it may take some time to understand their new manager's tactics in the transitional period. The oscillations are expected, but they will be hoping for a back-to-back win under a new manager at the Liberty Stadium.
