Switzerland meet Spain at the Gazprom Arena (Saint Petersburg) in a EURO 2020 Quarter-final clash and the match kicks off at 5 pm (UK) on Friday, July 2. Read our reason for Switzerland vs Spain prediction and betting tips.
SWITZERLAND VS SPAIN, ANOTHER GOAL-FEST COMING IN THE QUARTERFINALS?
Switzerland sprung a huge upset to dump world champions France out of the Euros in a dramatic 5-4 penalty shootout win on Monday night. The Swiss has responded well to their 3-0 defeat at the hands of Italy back in the group stages and will be confident of getting the better of Spain on Friday evening. Like the Swiss, Spain too were taken to extra time as they squandered a 3-1 lead, but eventually earned a 5-3 win over Croatia. La Roja have scored 10 goals in their last two games and after a rocky start to the Euros, look to be hitting their stride. The absence of Granit Xhaka is a huge blow for Switzerland and his ban may cost his side a spot in the semi-finals of Euro 2020.
SWITZERLAND’S FINEST HOUR
The Swiss had been seconds away from elimination but go through to face Spain after progressing from a major tournament knockout game for the first time since 1938. Haris Seferovic headed the Swiss ahead and they had a penalty saved that could have made it 2-0 before Karim Benzema scored twice and Paul Pogba put France 3-1 up with a screamer. Seferovic headed in his second goal of the game for Switzerland and substitute Mario Gavranovic hammered in a last-minute equaliser to send the game to extra time.
Vladimir Petkovic’s side wrote an unbelievable story when they saw off the competition’s favourites and World Cup winners France via a historic penalty shoot-out. However, without taking anything away from the Swiss, though, it has to be said that France looked guilty of getting too complacent when in front. The Rossocrociati now face the three-time European Champions and one of the best remaining teams in the competition Spain in the quarter-finals and will yet again be the underdogs.
TIP #1: Switzerland have scored three goals in each of the last four internationals to see Haris Seferović get on the scoresheet, and we like the odds for him to break the deadlock here for the Swiss.
LA ROJA TO KEEP IT TIGHT THIS TIME
La Furia Roja comes into this fixture after an exhausting 120 minute battle with the 2018 World Cup runner ups Croatia. The Checkered Ones gave all they had and came back from a two-goal deficit to equalise. But Spain caught them out of breath in the extra time and scored two more in quick succession to seal the win. The defensive errors and leakages almost cost Spain a quarterfinal spot and Luis Enrique needs to do something about it to avoid any further upsets.
By sawing off 2018 World Cup runners-up Croatia in such manner, spain became the first team in Euro finals history to score over 4.5 team goals in consecutive matches. Another win here would set them on course to become European champions for the fourth time, especially as ‘La Roja’ have lifted the trophy every time they’ve won their quarter-final game (1964, 2008 and 2012). The head to head history makes for positive reading too, as Spain have lost just one of 22 meetings with Switzerland (W16, D5).
TIP #2: The much-maligned Morata continues to divide opinions but that strike made it a healthy 21 goals in 44 international appearances. We back him to outscore Seferovic in normal time in Saint Petersburg.

Spain and Switzerland both enjoyed thrilling Euro 2020 wins at the last-16 stage but tend to be involved in tight tussles when they get together. Last year’s Nations League encounters ended with a narrow 1-0 win for La Roja in Madrid followed by a 1-1 draw in Basel. We expect Luis Enrique’s side to win and over 2.5 goals in the game for a final BettingKick’s Switzerland vs Spain prediction.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
