Few expected to see Torino and Fiorentina scrapping in the danger zone halfway through the season, but they are both under new management after firing their coaches.
Simone Zaza bagged a brace, including a last-gasp equalizer, as Torino fought back from 2-0 down to hold Benevento on Davide Nicola’s debut. Le Streghe had streaked out in front thanks to a Nicolas Viola penalty and Gianluca Lapadula firing in, but Zaza completed the comeback with a header and stoppage-time slide onto Andrea Belotti’s inspired pass. The ball hit the back of the net seven times in total, but three goals were disallowed – one for offside, two for handball. It was not quite the perfect debut for new Toro coach Nicola, but certainly an improvement.
Torino will be active in the transfer market until the end of January, Betis striker Antonio Sanabria has landed in and he will undergo his medical tests with the Granata. The 24-year-old is set to move to the Stadio Grande Torino on a permanent €7m deal. Several media claims the Paraguay striker was a Davide Nicola's wish as the Italian tactician had coached Sanabria at Genoa back in the 2019-20 campaign when the striker netted six goals in 17 appearances. Nicola also wants Genoa midfielder Lukas Lerager and Gedson Fernandez from Benfica on loan deals that could be permanent at the end of the season.

The Viola have broken into mid-table thanks to slender wins over Cagliari and Crotone, albeit interrupted by a 6-0 hammering at Napoli. Cesare Prandelli acknowledged the 3-5-2 formation made Fiorentina ‘much more balanced and organized,’ but they were also more aggressive against Crotone. A sensational Giacomo Bonaventura volley and Dusan Vlahovic finishing a well-worked move gave them the 2-0 lead, with Nwankwo Simy pulling one back in the second half. “We played well, fought for every ball, remained concentrated, and got the win even though we tried to over-complicate matters in the second half,” Prandelli told media.
Prandelli went back to the 3-5-2 formation after last week’s disastrous 6-0 defeat to Napoli. “The midfield was much more balanced and organized. We didn’t allow Crotone the spaces they usually relish. Every game is different and you learn from each experience, positive or negative. We might run into different issues next week, every team is dangerous in this very strange season. I hope these three points can boost our self-esteem and it was one of our best performances.”
Fiorentina (3-5-2): Dragowski; Milenkovic, Pezzella, Igor; Venuti, Bonaventura, Amrabat, Castrovilli, Biraghi; Ribery, Vlahovic

Fiorentina won just one of their last eight Serie A trips to Torino, drawing four and losing three. Both teams are improving and will try to steal a win here, so both teams to score is a reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
