Roma is expected to make a host of changes after the success against Ajax in the Europa League, but Torino has proven difficult to beat in recent weeks. Read our reasons for Torino vs Roma prediction and betting tips.
Torino is hoping to climb further away from relegation, as they sit five points above Cagliari on 18th. Both teams have struggled with consistency in the league in recent weeks and Torino proved in the Derby Della Madonnina against Juventus that they can give anyone a fight. Davide Nicola praised Torino after their 1-0 victory away to Udinese and assured ‘it’s not easy to neutralize someone like Rodrigo De Paul.’ Andrea Belotti converted the decisive penalty and Vanja Milinkovic-Savic made several saves, filling in for Salvatore Sirigu during his COVID lay-off. The result put Toro five points clear of the relegation zone, but Nicola isn’t getting ahead of himself. “We’re not done yet, because our situation still doesn’t leave us satisfied,” the coach told the media. “What we are satisfied with is the progress we are making. It’s not easy to neutralize someone like Rodrigo De Paul, but we did well to limit his influence with teamwork. It can only take a moment for a player like that to make the difference. I am most pleased with how clear-headed and sharp we were under pressure. Toni Sanabria and Belotti did a lot of hard work to help the team and I think today’s victory is thanks to the unity shown by those who started and came off the bench.”
Torino (3-5-2): Milinkovic-Savic; Izzo, Nkoulou, Bremer; Vojvoda, Rincon, Mandragora, Verdi, Ansaldi; Sanabria, Belotti
Suspended: none
Injured: Sirigu
Roma booked a place in the semi-finals of the European competition and will face Manchester United over two legs but must immediately regroup for Serie A action this Sunday. The Giallorossi are seventh in Serie A, seven points behind the Champions League places, and must string together a positive run of results to keep up with the teams fighting for a place in Europe next term. Paulo Fonseca insisted reaching the Europa League semi-final against Manchester United ‘changes nothing’ for his future, while Roma ‘had Ajax under control.’ The Giallorossi had won the first leg 2-1 in Amsterdam, so a 1-1 draw at the Olimpico allowed them to book their semi-final spot against Manchester United. “I think we had more problems defensively in Amsterdam, whereas tonight we largely had Ajax under control. They are a team with a lot of quality, but we did well in defense today,” Fonseca told the media. “It’s difficult to play a team with that kind of quality going forward. We played a very realistic game, knowing we had the 2-1 first-leg advantage, and I think we took the right approach.”
Roma has won 12 out of 14 Europa League matches this season. “I’ve never reached a semi-final before, so this makes me very proud, especially as we are representing Italy right now. It’s a source of pride for Roma and we are all very happy.” Edin Dzeko’s goal was created by Roma playing their way out of defense with Bryan Cristante. “Bryan has a lot of quality on the ball, playing out from the back with Bryan is an important part of our game. Riccardo Calafiori did well and set up the goal. “We know that Bryan has this ability to pick a pass and escape the initial press, which makes him a very special center-back. Dzeko is motivated, happy and everything is going well right now. As I’ve always said, I am not remotely concerned with the future. All that matters now is Roma. The club owners have always been very close to us all and we feel their presence.”
Roma (3-4-2-1): Pau Lopez; Mancini, Ibanez, Fazio; Karsdorp, Villar, Veretout, Bruno Peres; Carles Perez, Pedro; Borja Mayoral
Suspended: Pellegrini
Injured: Zaniolo, Kumbulla, El Shaarawy, Spinazzola, Smalling, Calafiori

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
