TOTTENHAM VS CHELSEA MATCH ANALYSIS
Liverpool inflicted Tottenham their first defeat in eight matches in all competitions (W6, D2), but they still remain firm on course for the top-four, sitting in 6th after another uninspiring performance, this time around in a 1-0 defeat at Brighton. They lost their talisman, Harry Kane, to an ankle injury against the Reds and it remains to be sen how they will cope in his absence. As for Chelsea, after a goalless draw against Wolves in Thomas Tuchel's debut in the dug-out at Stamford Bridge, the Blues gave Frenchman the first win of his reign against an in-form Burnley (2-0). also at home. This is Tuchel’s first big test, against a top team and a manager, and a win here would see them leapfrog the Spurs in 6th.
Tottenham are doing well, despite the two defeats on the trot, with the team in the Round 5 of the FA Cup, while already in the final of the League Cup, where they will face Manchester City in April. High-flying duo Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son have been absolutely brilliant for the visitors in this campaign so far, hitting teams on the counter and linking up fantastically. However, they need to adapt soon to a life without their main man if they want to avoid slipping any further down the standings.
After losing to Liverpool on Thursday night, Spurs needed a response. If José Mourinho had hoped to discover a workable plan B in Harry Kane’s absence, this sorry offering from the Spurs confirmed a return to the drawing board will be necessary. They were outplayed from the first minute to the very last by Brighton, which doesn’t bode well for the coming weeks. Another worry is that Kane’s replacement, Gareth Bale, has looked near-anonymous in almost all of his appearances for Spurs.
Tuchel’s Chelsea reign got off to a frustrating start as Wolves secured a point in a drab stalemate at Stamford Bridge. Even though he conducted only one training session with his new team prior to the game, the German was given an indication of the huge challenge facing him as Chelsea struggled to carve out chances against a Wolves, also a side short of confidence and without a top-flight win since December 15th.
However, against Burnley next, it was more like it. Chelsea had control and creativity, playing crisp and inventive football once César Azpilicueta had scored the first goal of the Thomas Tuchel era. Tuchel’s side had a clear idea in attack and combined it with impressive discipline without the ball, ensuring Burnley did not manage an effort on goal. The new manager’s immediate task will be to improve the position of a club who are 7th in the Premier League after spending more than £220m in summer and what better chance to do that than a six-pointer against their closest rivals.

Tottenham have lost two of their last three home league games against Chelsea (W1) and the Blues are unbeaten in their last four Premier League meetings with Spurs (W3 D1), keeping a clean sheet in three of these games. However, Chelsea have been poor on the road lately, having lost four of their last five away league games (W1).
Spurs look hapless at present, while Chelsea come into the trip across the capital on the back of a comfortable win. The Blues are yet to concede their first goal under Tuchel and have the means to inflict further misery upon Spurs, but Mourinho will be doing his best to stay unbeaten against his former club.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
