Tottenham host Southampton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (London) in the rescheduled 29th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 6 pm (UK) on Wednesday, April 21. Read our reasons for Tottenham vs Southampton prediction and betting tips.
After a frustrating 2-2 draw at Newcastle Tottenham have been dealt another blow in their top-four race following a demoralising 3-1 defeat at the hands of Man United and Harry Kane’s ankle injury has heaped more misery on the Spurs who just can’t get the momentum going. On the other hand, after producing a fabulous fightback to beat Burnley 3-2 on home turf, Saints looked hopeless in a 3-0 defeat to second-bottom West Brom. They have picked up just 10 points from 15 Premier League games in 2021 (W3 D1 L11), fewer than any other side since the turn of the year and after failing to book a spot in the FA Cup finals Wembley for April's FA Cup semi-finals, things are looking bleak for Ralph Hasenhuttl's side.
Mourinho has continued to chop and change his centre-back partnerships over the last few months, with all of Tottenham’s centre-halfs being guilty of some poor mistakes at the back. The Spurs boss has utilised a midfield three of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso on a few occasions since the latter returned from injury. However, Mourinho’s men have not been able to get the results they would have wanted and the 58-year-old thus decided to deploy a back five against Everton on Friday.
The Tottenham boss brought Moussa Sissoko back into the starting lineup to play alongside Hojbjerg and decided to move Ndombele back into a number ten role, where he played regularly in the first few months of the season. However, the changes did not work as Spurs struggled to create chances and had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Carlo Ancelotti’s men. Spurs have won only one in five now, the pressure on Mourinho is mounting, and a failure to get a win here could dash Spurs’ hopes of playing in the Champions League next year.
As for Southampton, the Saints are all but safe on 36 points in 14th place after an embarrassing 3-0 defeat at all but relegated West Brom at the weekend. Being 9 points above the drop zone should allow Saints to play with freedom at the Hotspur Stadium, though, and an open contest could be on the cards. Walcott and Ings have, after the break, returned to the first-team in a big boost for their manager, but with an FA Cup semi-final exit, the Saints haven’t got too much to play for the remaining six games.
After a strangely out-of-sorts performance at West Brom last time out in the Premier League, Southampton were denied a first appearance in an FA Cup final since 2003 as Kelechi Iheanacho scored the only goal of a forgettable semi-final for Leicester. Southampton failed to register a single shot on target throughout the contest which was their biggest match of the season and Hasenhuttl will have to dig deep to motivate his deflated Saints against the struggling Mourinho’s Spurs.

Tottenham meet Southampton having previously won eight of their last nine Premier League home games against the Saints, with the only exception a 1-2 loss at White Hart Lane in May 2016. They also have a chance to do a league double over Southampton after an emphatic 5-2 win at the St. Mary’s in the reverse fixture in September.
Southampton have scored in each of their last 10 Premier League meetings with Spurs. However, Saints have only kept one clean sheet themselves in that run and have only won three of the 10 games (D1, L6).

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
