TOTTENHAM VS WEST BROM MATCH ANALYSIS
Things are going from bad to worse for Jose Mourinho, who oversaw back-to-back home league defeats for the first time in his managerial career - against Liverpool on January 28 and Chelsea on Thursday night. Spurs have now lost three on the trot and five of their last 10 league matches and the pressure is mounting on Mourinho as his side have slipped to 8th. As for West Brom, the Baggies lost a relegation six-pointer in the battle to beat the drop with a 2-1 loss at Sheffield Utd in midweek. West Brom remain second from bottom and Allardyce’s record of never being relegated from the top flight is under serious threat.
All is still not lost for Tottenham, despite the three defeats on the trot, with the team in the Round 5 of the FA Cup, while already in the final of the League Cup, where they will face Manchester City in April. However, they need to adapt soon to life without their star player Harry Kane if they want to avoid slipping any further down the standings. Another worry is that Kane’s replacement, Gareth Bale, has looked near-anonymous in almost all of his appearances for Spurs.
Thursday's 1-0 defeat to his former club Chelsea has increased the pressure on Mourinho, who has faced criticism for recent results and his pragmatic style of play. Tottenham were deservedly beaten on the night in a match where they managed only two shots on target, making it just two wins in their last 10 league matches. The North London outfit are now seven points behind the top four and need to turn the corner quickly.
West Brom, on the other hand, still haven’t fully convinced in their ability to continue climbing up the standings after they followed the win at Wolves with another four PL games without a win (D1, L3). Albion had conceded 11 goals in their past four Premier League games and are without a win in 12 from 13 in all competitions (D4, L8). The leakiest back four in the Premier League have now shipped 52 goals and scored only 18 – only bottom Sheffield scored less (14).
Speaking of Sheffield Utd, Matt Phillips' first-half goal had put the Baggies in charge of the contest between the Premier League's bottom two teams in midweek. However, changes in personnel, tactics, and attitude saw a rejuvenated Blades side come from behind to claim their third Premier League win in the past five games. Allardyce shifted from a three-man defence to a conventional 4-4-2 formation, but was left frustrated in what he had described as a ’must not lose’ match.

Tottenham have a better overall record against West Brom (W8 vs W3) in their last 20 meetings and have lost just one of their last 26 Premier League home games against promoted clubs (W23, D2). However, WBA are one of just two teams starting the day in the bottom-three to defeat Tottenham across the last five years.
Mourinho may have guided Spurs to the final of the EFL Cup, into the last 16 of the FA Cup and last 32 of the Europa League, but the Portuguese will know that results and performances simply have to improve in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Sam Allardyce's appointment has not had the desired impact, with the Baggies conceding 26 league goals in nine matches - as many as they shipped in 13 games under Slaven Bilic. Survival expert’ Allardyce’s 100% survival rate looks in jeopardy, with fixtures against Tottenham and Man Utd on the horizon.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
