Turkey meet Wales at Baku Olympic Stadium (Baku) in the EURO 2020 Group A Round 2 match and the game kicks off at 8 pm (UK) on Wednesday, June 16. Read our reason for Turkey vs Wales prediction and betting tips.
A DRAW BAD FOR BOTH TURKEY AND WALES
The Baku Olympic Stadium plays host to this crucial matchday two Euro 2020 fixture, and for logistical reasons, Turkey fans are expected to outnumber the Welsh contingent. The Turks will need all the support they can get, after suffering a fifth consecutive opening fixture loss at the European Championships, losing 3-0 to a rampant Italy. Meanwhile, managed by Robert Page, who made his international debut in a goalless draw against Turkey, Euro 2016 semi finalists Wales took much encouragement from their opening matchday draw vs Switzerland. Wales’ strong record on Azerbaijani soil (W3, D1) may provide a confidence booster ahead of the crucial game.
TURKEY TO BOUNCE BACK AFTER LACKLUSTER OPENER
Turkey tried to stay calm, patient and stick to the game plan of looking for counterattacks, but Italy controlled the game from the start, kept possession and the danger levels kept rising. Things may have been different if the Crescent-Stars had not conceded so early in the second half, but it was all downhill after Merih Demiral's own goal. As it is, Turkey lost their opening match in all five EUROs they have contested.
The Crescent-Stars suffered only their third defeat in 21 games and had been labelled as potential dark horses to go far in the tournament. But it is testament to the organisation of the Italians that they failed to register a single shot in the opening period of their game on Friday and had only three shots in the entire match. Italy clearly deserved this one and Turkey now have to focus on their meeting with Wales in Baku.
A look at Turkey’s betting odds: Turkey have progressed from their group the last three times they have avoided defeat in their second group stage match and our first tip of the day is Turkey to win.
DRAGONS MUST TAKE CHANCES WHEN THEY COME
Wales came from behind against Switzerland to secure an important point in their Group A tie in Baku thanks to a thundering header from Kieffer Moore. Robert Page’s side had suffered against the raw pace and power of the Swiss for decent chunks of the game and were dealt a blow when Breel Embolo broke the deadlock. They could have found themselves further behind were it not for Danny Ward, who pulled off a string of excellent saves to keep his side in the game.
After numerous missed chances, including a disallowed goal that was ruled offside by VAR, Wales punished Switzerland when Moore, with a superb glancing header, latched onto a cross from the right to secure a vital point for the Dragons. They weren’t at their best but Wales certainly showed their fighting spirit to take a share of the spoils. Next up they face Turkey on Wednesday.
A look at Wales’ betting odds: Wales have only failed to score in one of their seven matches at the European Championships so far and our second tip of the day is Wales to score at any time.

Turkey and Wales last time met way back in August 1997 in a FIFA World Cup qualifier – it produced 10 goals, with Turkey winning 6-4 in Istanbul. Interestingly, current Wales manager Rob Page played for Wales that day. Turkey haven’t lost back-to-back games under Şenol Güneş since April 2003 and will look to bounce back with a win, while Wales will keep it tight at the back and look for a winner later in the game. Another draw could mean that they need a win against Italy in the final round.
Final BettingKick’s Turkey vs Wales prediction is: Under 2.5 goals.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
