In a rearranged fixture that was initially postponed because of the heavy rain in early December, Udinese hosts Atalanta.
The Friulani are dealing with an injury crisis, ruling out Ignacio Pussetto, Gerard Deulofeu, Stefano Okaka, and Fernando Forestieri among others. Their coach Luca Gotti believes Udinese deserved more from their 2-1 defeat to Sampdoria, but let the tension get to them after the equalizer. “Our position in the table is not good at the moment and we were coming off a game we lost in the final minutes. I do see a psychological aspect to what happened this evening, as after the equalizer, we started to think it was all happening again, we got tense, it was palpable the change of mood.” The Friulani had the better of the game and took the lead through Rodrigo De Paul, but Antonio Candreva’s chipped penalty and a late Ernesto Torregrossa header turned it around.
Samp changed the game with their substitutions, whereas Udinese made relatively few adjustments from the bench. “I am reflecting on what I could’ve done differently in that 15 minutes, but I don’t think there were many other options to make a big impact,” added Gotti. “I think the only area we were missing was in the final third where we have multiple injured players. What we need are goals, because, for those 60-70 minutes, we deserved more than being 1-0 up, in my view.”
Luca Gotti still must manage a significant injury list for Udinese, with Mato Jajalo and Ignacio Pussetto both out for the season, plus Stefano Okaka, Fernando Forestieri, Sebastian Prodl, and Bram Nuytinck all still unavailable. Gerard Deulofeu was back on the bench at the weekend and could now earn a start, with Roberto Pereyra and star man Rodrigo De Paul also playing in support of lone striker Kevin Lasagna.
Udinese: Musso; Bonifazi, Becao, Samir; Larsen, De Paul, Pereyra, Mandragora, Zeegelaar; Deulofeu; Lasagna
Gian Piero Gasperini believes Atalanta’s 0-0 draw against Genoa is ‘not a result they deserved’. La Dea was held to a goalless stalemate by the Grifone at the Gewiss Stadium. “Genoa had some good chances in the first half, but we must consider all the 90 minutes. We dominated the second half and a goalless stalemate is far from reality.” Gasperini told the media. “We did well even if we didn’t score, we gave everything and we stopped their counter attacks in the second half. It’s difficult to break the deadlock during these games, if we had scored one it would have been different. We’ve had a slow start, but we couldn’t score, we did well on an athletic level.”
Atalanta is on a good run of form, as they are unbeaten in all competitions since November, starting 2021 with three consecutive Serie A victories and a 3-1 Coppa Italia success against Cagliari but stopped by Genoa in the last round. Papu Gomez is still frozen out but doesn’t seem to be missed, as La Dea regularly rotate the squad with little difference to their performances. They do have options to choose from for the upcoming games with Udinese and Milan. Everyone has recovered now, including Mattia Caldara and Mario Pasalic, although obviously, they need to make their way back gradually. Matteo Pessina didn’t train and they need to be careful with him, as he was the starting option after Gomez was dismissed from the first team.
Atalanta: Gollini; Toloi, Romero, Djimsiti; Hateboer, De Roon, Freuler, Gosens; Pessina, Ilicic; Zapata

Atalanta needs to be more clinical in front of goal. They still waste too many chances to kill games off and they can't always afford to do that as in-game vs Genoa. Away win looks like a reasonable bet regarding Udinese form and injuries.
So, our final Udinese vs Atalanta Prediction is Atalanta to win.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
