League leaders Milan travel to Udinese in great shape, but the hosts boosted their confidence with a win in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday.
Udinese triumphed for the second time in 2020-21 against Vicenza in the Coppa Italia and Luca Gotti was happy with the response from his players after a disappointing 3-2 defeat to Fiorentina in Serie A last weekend. Udinese has started the season in poor shape, with only one win and four losses in the initial five rounds. Gerard Deulofeu is expected in the Friuli’s line-up and will play against his former team for the first time since his return to Serie A.
Udinese coach Luca Gotti said he saw the Friuli ‘have fun’ in the 3-1 win over Vicenza in the Coppa Italia. They have only picked up three points in five League games so far, advanced in the Italian Cup, as Fernando Forestieri, Gerard Deulofeu, and Ignacio Pussetto scored the goals at the Dacia Arena. Udinese played with high confidence and that could help them in the match with the league leaders. Goals were lacking at the start of the season and to be creative and score easily, even with a Seria B side will be valuable proof that the team is on a good path.
Udinese (4-3-3): Musso; Larsen, De Maio, Nuytinck, Ouwejan; De Paul, Arslan, Pereyra; Deulofeu, Okaka, Lasagna
Suspended: none
Injured: Mandragora, Jajalo, Prodl, Coulibaly, Walace
Milan, on the other hand, is flying high and continued their unbeaten run of 22 games across all competitions with a 3-0 win against Sparta Prague in the Europa League on Thursday, bouncing back from a 3-3 draw with Roma in Serie A on Monday. The Rossoneri continue to cope without Jens Petter Hauge and Gigio Donnarumma, who tested positive for coronavirus ahead of the team’s first two dropped points against the Giallorossi. Ciprian Tatarusanu is expected to continue in goal on Sunday and the Diavolo could have Matteo Gabbia back in contention, as he tested negative on Friday night. Milan is expected to continue the rotation, as fatigue could be the problem at the start of the new season and hard schedule. Milan has only won three of their last 12 trips to the Dacia Arena in Serie A, losing seven of them. The last win came in November 2018, when captain Alessio Romagnoli scored the winner.
Milan comfortably saw off Sparta Prague 3-0 at San Siro, with Diogo Dalot contributing a goal and assist for Rafael Leao, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic missed a penalty. The Swede provided the assist for the opening goal. Brahim Diaz won back possession in midfield to send Ibrahimovic down the right, the veteran rolled it back across and the Spaniard cut inside to roll it under the on-rushing goalkeeper. Ibrahimovic was bundled over by David Lischka when trying to get on to an Ismael Bennacer cross, but then the Swede fired his penalty onto the crossbar, letting Sparta off the hook. Ibrahimovic was rested for the second half, but replacement Rafael Leao immediately get the goal, as Bennacer spread the play down the right for Diogo Dalot to put in a right-foot cross off the outside of the boot and Leao just had to sweep in. Dalot continued to put his mark on the game with his first goal in the Milan jersey. Bennacer was involved again, the cross-field pass releasing him practically at the center-circle and the defender ran forward, his finish taking a deflection to wrong-foot the goalkeeper at the near post.
Milan (4-2-3-1): Tatarusanu; Calabria, Kjaer, Romagnoli, Hernandez; Bennacer, Kessie; Saelemaekers, Calhanoglu, Leao; Ibrahimovic
Suspended: none
Injured: Musacchio, Duarte, Gabbia, Hauge, Donnarumma

Roma was brave to pressure Milan on Monday and Udinese will try with the same tactics in a try to surprise the league leader. Milan is creating chances and goals easily but the backline is still shaky and both teams to score could be the best bet for this game.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
