Udinese and Sassuolo will seek maximum points when they meet at the Dacia Arena on Saturday evening. Read our reasons for Udinese vs Sassuolo prediction and betting tips.
Luca Gotti was furious after Milan converted a penalty with the last kick of the game. ‘If this happened to other clubs, there’d be chaos, but with Udinese, nobody cares.’ The Friulani had taken the lead through a Rodrigo Becao header and thought the match was over when Jens Stryger Larsen clumsily flailed his arm in the box to handle the cross. “We had the victory in our hands. The epilogue to this game is the kind of thing that gives you sleepless nights,” Gotti told media. “I’ve seen games end five seconds early, but the penalty was awarded after 95 minutes had passed. It won’t change anything now, I know that, but I can at least be allowed the opportunity to be angry about it. To concede a penalty like that after injury time had expired, if this happened to other clubs, there’d be chaos, but with Udinese, nobody cares. These would’ve been three very important points for us.”
It is also fair to say that Udinese parked the bus for most of the match, scoring on a header from a corner, but Gotti insists that was the only approach they could take. “It was obvious that coming to San Siro against this Milan, you need to do a lot of defending. We had prepared that, but not just defending, and in fact, we had been winning the game until that happened at the end. Unfortunately, we lost Roberto Pereyra’s quality and then Samir had to come off, and these events changed the end of the game in a way we had not predicted. Look, I am well aware that a point here is precious, but this team did not come here just to impress. We came here for points and until the 95th minute, we had three of them.”
After setting up in a 3-5-1-1 system away to Milan, Udinese head coach Luca Gotti is expected to bring target man Fernando Llorente back into the attack alongside Ilija Nestorovski, with Roberto Pereyra dropping into a deeper role in midfield. Inspirational captain Rodrigo De Paul and Tolgay Arslan should join Pereyra in the central three, as Jean-Victor Makengo misses out. Gotti should have injury-hit trio Gerard Deulofeu (knee), Fernando Forestieri (thigh), and Thomas Ouwejan (foot) available after the latter pair made their return to the bench at San Siro.
Udinese: Musso; Becao, Bonifazi, Nuytinck; Stryger Larsen, De Paul, Arslan, Pereyra, Zeegelaar; Nestorovski, Llorente
It was an extraordinary 3-3 draw at the Mapei Stadium with two late penalties, Sassuolo rattling the woodwork twice and a Napoli goal disallowed. The hosts were without Jeremie Boga, Medhi Bourabia, Vlad Chiriches, and Filippo Romagna, but took an aggressive approach with a front four and Maxime Lopez in midfield. The hosts broke the deadlock when Berardi whipped a free-kick into the crowd and Nikola Maksimovic got the final touch to flick it into his net. Napoli got the equalizer with another classy finish, as Piotr Zielinski gathered in the D and picked his spot to curl left-footed into the bottom corner. On the stroke of half-time, Elseid Hysaj went through the back of Francesco Caputo in an unnecessary and clumsy challenge. Berardi converted the penalty, even though Meret did get something on it. Sassuolo almost added a third with the ferocious Berardi rocket that smashed against the bar on 69 minutes. Barely 90 seconds later, Sassuolo rattled the woodwork again, this time with Caputo’s strike off the upright. Luck was on Napoli’s side there, because they equalized moments after that when Insigne got down the left and laid the assist off on a silver platter for Giovanni Di Lorenzo, who just had to prod it over the line. It was suddenly end-to-end stuff, Sassuolo seeing two shots charged down, then Fabian Ruiz forcing a sensational one-handed Andrea Consigli save following Ferrari’s error. In the final minute, the referee awarded a very soft penalty when Di Lorenzo dribbled into the box and seemed to almost stop in front of Lukas Haraslin, so bumping into the back of him was inevitable. Contact was minimal, but Insigne converted a well-taken spot-kick by sending Consigli the wrong way. It still wasn’t over, because, with the last kick of the game, Kostas Manolas marked his comeback by proving he is nowhere near fit and bundled Haraslin over in the box for a Sassuolo penalty. Caputo held his nerve to convert for a 3-3 thriller.
Despite the rapid turnaround of fixtures, Sassuolo may remain relatively unchanged - particularly considering the momentum gained by saving their last game in dramatic circumstances and they essentially had a free week beforehand, after their previous contest was postponed. Domenico Berardi and Filip Djuricic are set to start behind 'Ciccio' Caputo once again, while Hamed Traore may come back in for French forward Gregoire Defrel, with winger Jeremie Boga still out of commission. Midfielder Mehdi Bourabia and Vlad Chiriches - whose expected return has been delayed - will remain sidelined too.
Sassuolo: Consigli; Muldur, Marlon, Ferrari, Rogerio; Lopez, Locatelli; Berardi, Djuricic, Traore; Caputo

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
