It is maybe early to talk about the relegation battle but Udinese and Spezia must give everything at the moment to gain first points of the season on Wednesday when newcomers visit Dacia Arena.
Udinese had a difficult 2019/20 campaign which saw them in a relegation battle before Luca Gotti arrived and steered them back towards a safer place in the standings. With Seko Fofana leaving and investments unimpressive, it could be another campaign of frustration, and the game vs Verona showed glimpses of that kind of feeling. Udinese clipped the crossbar twice in a game they lost with a single goal of the host team that had early a golden opportunity, Zaccagni fired wide. Udinese had the best chance in the first half added time, De Paul curling free-kick met the head of Rodrigo Becao, Silvestri turned the ball onto the crossbar. Verona got lucky when scored the crucial goal, Andrea Favilli’s first Serie A goal came when Antonin Barak’s cross took a head deflection off Faraoni, surprising Udinese defenders for a simple tap in.
Lasagna was off-balance in the most of the match, Stefano Okaka tried to add assistS and power, Verona defended chaotically but Udinese couldn't find a way to score because Becao and Lasagna blasted over from close range.
Udinese have a few injury worries. Midfielders Mato Jajalo and Rolando Mandragora are injured, while there are doubts over the availability of Danish defender Jens Stryger Larsen.
Injured: Mato Jajaro, Rolando Mandragora
Doubtful: Jens Stryger Larsen
Suspended: None
Udinese (3-5-2): Juan Musso, Rodrigo Becao, Sebastien De Maio, Samir, Hidde ter Avest, Rodrigo De Paul, Tolgay Arslan, Mamadou Coulibaly, Marvin Zeegelaar, Kevin Lasagna, Stefano Okaka
Spezia was promoted to the top flight for the first time in their history when they defeated Frosinone in the Serie B play-offs, having finished fifth in the regular season. They relied heavily on loan deals and could go down that route again in this campaign. Right-back Jacopo Sala has arrived from SPAL as a free agent, but had a hard time against Sassuolo, while Albania international center-back Ardian Ismajli joined from Hajduk Split and didn't get minutes in the first game of the season.
Ex-PSV keeper Zoet was challenged several times at his debut, but his saves were just consolation as Sassuolo gave Spezia a rude awakening to life in Serie A with a clinical 4-1 away victory. Apart from Zoet, Jacopo Sala, Cristian Dell’Orco, Tommaso Pobega, and Kevin Agudelo all debuted in Serie A against a team that didn't have the class of Marlon and Boga. Their absence was unseen because Filip Đuričić was awesome, he broke the deadlock, nutmegging his opponent before coolly finishing past Zoet. Spezia drew level through Andriy Galabinov, who nodded in Matteo Ricci’s cross for their first-ever Serie A goal.
Ciccio Caputo won a penalty cooly converted by Domenico Berardi straight down the middle of Zoet’s goal and Sassuolo's number nine get his goal with 15 minutes left, hooking a volley home from a few meters. Spezia was outclassed but certainly weren’t outfought as Galabinov hit the crossbar with a header and substitute Luca Mora forced Andrea Consigli into a save from close range but Sassuolo was a miles better team and deserved to win comfortably.
Spezia manager Vincenzo Italiano will be unable to call upon the services of left-back Federico Mattiello and center-back Elio Capradossi, who are both out injured.
Injured: Federico Mattiello, Elio Capradossi
Doubtful: None

Spezia (4-3-3): Jeroen Zoet, Jacopo Sala, Martin Erlic, Cristian Dell'Orco, Juan Ramos, Paolo Bartolomei, Matteo Ricci, Tommaso Pobega, Kevin Agudelo, Andrey Galabinov, Emmanuel Gyasi

Udinese has more experience and individual quality but their style of the play suits more to Spezia than previous rival Sassuolo who completely outplayed them in every football aspect. Udinese must win in these kinds of games to avoid the relegation battle and a home win is our most preferable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
