Ukraine will try to avoid bigger disgrace after the most probable worst streak in their football history. After defeats against France and Germany, they must play against Spain with injury and a coronavirus crisis.
Ukraine was wasted on Wednesday, losing 7-1 in a friendly against France. It was their heaviest ever defeat, and their coach, the legendary striker Andriy Shevchenko also needed his team to perform vs Germany. But even for a bigger side, missing 14 players would be a problem. For Ukraine, it was a disaster especially against top-class opponents like Germany. With a very experimental line-up, the hosts could neither pose enough attacking threat to Manuel Neuer's goal nor withstand the constant pressure of his team-mates. The result was fair, Mathias Ginter’s well-crafted goal, which involved all three of Germany’s center-backs, midway through the first half put the visitors ahead. Ukraine goalkeeper Georgiy Bushchan, making his competitive debut, spectacularly denied Joshua Kimmich and Serge Gnabry before the interval, but the goalkeeper's error led to Leon Goretzka heading a second four minutes after the break. Ruslan Malinovskyi’s late penalty, after Niklas Süle had brought down Roman Yaremchuk, gave the home side hope, but Joachim Löw’s men held on.
Andriy Shevchenko, Ukraine national coach was satisfied after the game: "I want to thank my players for their commitment and keeping to our game plan the whole time. We had young guys out on the pitch tonight and I'm pleased with their performance." Despite high coronavirus numbers in Kiev, Mayor Vitali Klitschko has relaxed restrictions and permitted up to 20,000 fans with hygiene measures in place and it could be similar for the match against Spain.
Spain picked up a 1-0 victory against Switzerland as Luis Enrique's young side defended their top position of Group 4 with seven points in three games. The Spaniards created many chances in the game and came away with a well-deserved victory. Mikel Oyarzabal scored early, the Real Sociedad forward snatched the only goal of the game in the 14th minute after Switzerland tried to play the ball out from the back but failed miserably, leaving Oyarzabal with a simple finish.
Barcelona's teenage talent Ansu Fati and Oyarzabal missed chances as Luis Enrique's side failed to add to their lead and finish the match, but there former Barcelona and the Real player had several reasons to be satisfied as he picked an experimental squad with plenty of youth, guided by a couple of veterans, including Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos and Barcelona's Sergio Busquets. Spain just did enough to win but they are far from their best.
Fati, who became Spain's youngest ever goalscorer in their previous Nations League outing against Ukraine in September, might have doubled the lead early in the second half but his strike was blocked. Oyarzabal then hit the side netting from close range as Spain started to create more chances and the game became stretched, but neither side was able to find another goal. Switzerland improved after their second-half substitutions but Pau Torres and Sergio Ramos put in a good performance in central defense. The Swiss did find the back of the net in the second half but the goal was ruled out for a foul during the build-up. The presence of central defenders like Ramos and Torres enabled the Spanish national team to play in a higher rhythm on the field because they do not suffer from confusion when they are pressured when they have the ball. The next is to have a bigger conversation rate in the final third and to finish games earlier.

Ukraine did well despite two defeats in a row but the fatigue must be a factor at this moment and Spain would welcome this game as a step forward in a building a new power side that could be a contender for the trophy in the next major competition so away win is a reasonable option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
