It is probably too early to talk about relegation but Union Berlin and Augsburg will face in some kind of derby of the candidates for the lower table positions on Saturday at Stadion Ander Alten Forsterei.
Union finished on 11th place in the standings after their debut campaign among the best German teams. They are well aware of the second season crisis so they tried to reinforce properly but their summer signing, once great Max Kruse is likely to be absent through injury their first Bundesliga match of the season. He had 11 goals and 11 assists in his last Bundesliga campaign with Werder Bremen in 2018/19, before transfer in Turkey with Fenerbahce. Union played great team football in the last season but over the year and many of the points came from the rivals' attitude to underestimate their qualities. In the new season that will not be the case and they signed Kruse for that extra offensive edge and quality in the final third. An ankle injury should keep him sidelined, but Cedric Teuchert who was recruited from Schalke over the summer will lead the line following the departure of Sebastian Andersson for Cologne.
Former Wolfsburg center-back Robin Knoche will have his role at the back but a compact midfield will still be the key for success. Union Berlin tended to overrun any rival in this league and their effort was always their biggest power. They won four of their five friendlies, only losing 2-1 to Cologne. Warm-up for the start of the Bundesliga didn't go well, Union did need extra time to get the better of Bundesliga 2 side Karlsruhe in the DFB Cup last Saturday. The only player on the scoresheet for Union Berlin was Nico Schlotterbeck (117').
Union: Luthe - Trimmel (c), Friedrich, Knoche, Gießelmann - Prömel, Gentner, Andrich - Ingvartsen, Bülter - Teuchert
Out: Endo (thigh)
Doubtful: Kruse (ankle), Ujah (knee)
Coach: Urs Fischer
Augsburg is high on confidence ahead of the trip to Berlin, and they will have to prove that last season dip in form and results were just temporary. Augsburg ended just outside the relegation zone on the 15th spot so they did everything to build quality levels in the transfer window. The arrivals of Daniel Caligiuri from Schalke and goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz from Union. The goalkeeper made the second-most saves in the Bundesliga last season with 115, only behind Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Yann Sommer (126). Michael Gregoritsch's return from the loan gives them more options up front. Summer signing defender Robert Gumny is widely expected to make his Bundesliga debut. Heiko Herrlich's side lost 1-0 in a friendly with Ajax, but had an easy job with lower-league opponents MTV Eintracht Celle in the cup at the weekend, with a 7-0 victory. Last season's top scorer Florian Niederlechner contributed a goal and an assist, as the sixth-most lethal striker in the Bundesliga last term, with 13 goals he proved his reputation and should begin up front again for this one, especially as forward Marco Richter is a doubt with an ankle swell. For Augsburg, the goals were scored by Ruben Vargas (20'), Daniel Caligiuri (29'), Alfreð Finnbogason (47'), Florian Niederlechner (57'), André Hahn (66'), and Fredrik Jensen (88', 90').
Augsburg: Gikiewicz - Framberger, Gouweleeuw, Uduokhai, Iago - Khedira (c), Gruezo - Caligiuri, Gregoritsch, Vargas - Niederlechner
Out: Moravek (muscular)
Doubtful: Bazee (match fitness), Löwen (knock), Richter (ankle)
Coach: Heiko Herrlich

Very important game for both teams early because they will probably have a hard time during the season. A tight affair is expected, with under 2,5 goals as our preferable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
