Union Berlin's great start of the season could continue when they host Bielefeld on Saturday.
Since arriving on loan from Liverpool, Loris Karius had a star welcome in the media but nobody saw him on the pitch because of the good form of Andreas Luthe. He played a great role in Union stretched club-record undefeated run in the Bundesliga to five games in Monday's 3-1 win over 10-man Hoffenheim. The 33-year-old doesn't get too many plaudits, but the Fantasy Bundesliga bargain-basement buy - 4.7M - is making life difficult for Karius. The Liverpool loanee was on the bench for the 4-0 triumph against Mainz and 1-1 draw with Schalke, before missing the subsequent Freiburg stalemate and Hoffenheim win with a foot problem. Luthe has made 15 saves this season - 14th among the league's goalkeepers - stopping 68 percent of the shots on his goal. Results are great, but his statistics aren't, perhaps it's time for Union to try Karius as their No.1?
Even if Karius is match-fit this weekend, Luthe won't give his spot without a proper fight. Head coach Urs Fischer is likely to make some changes to his outfield personnel. Captain Christopher Trimmel and defender Robin Knoche are available again after missing out on Matchday 6 and should slot straight back in, while Bayer Leverkusen loanee striker Joel Pohjanpalo did well by scoring his second substitute goal of the season last time out.
Max Kruse has two goals and three assists since joining the Union in the summer. His penalty against Hoffenheim was his 15th successful Bundesliga spot-kick in a row. Only former Bochum and Schalke forward Jochen Abel managed more (16), back in the 1970s and '80s.
Union: Luthe - Friedrich, Knoche, Hübner - Trimmel (c), Gentner, Andrich, Lenz - Kruse, Bülter - Pohjanpalo
Out: Ingvartsen (muscular), Prömel (muscular), Ujah (knee)
Doubtful: Karius (foot), Schlotterbeck (hamstring)
Coach: Urs Fischer
Arminia travels to the capital on the back of a four-match losing run. The promoted outfit went down 2-0 to title challengers Borussia Dortmund on Matchday 6, having come up short in their previous three against Wolfsburg, leaders Bayern Munich, and Werder Bremen. Even at this early stage in the 2020/21 campaign, their great start after an 11-year hiatus - Bielefeld held Eintracht Frankfurt and got the better of Koln in their opening two fixtures - must be beginning to feel like an eternity ago. Bielefeld has only picked up four points from six games. Their last away win in the Bundesliga came way back in March 2009, when they ran out 1-0 winners at Karlsruher's Wildparkstadion. If results go against them this weekend, Uwe Neuhaus' underdogs could drop into the relegation zone.
On the plus side, the Arminia head coach has no injury concerns, Germany-born Benin winger Cebio Soukou and Venezuela forward Sergio Cordova will come into the side to add fresh impact to the second-tamest attack in the division (four goals scored). Defender Joakim Nilsson will likely make way to accommodate a more attack-minded formation.
Bielefeld: Ortega - Brunner, Pieper, Van der Hoorn, Lucoqui - Prietl, Hartel - Soukou, Doan, Cordova - Klos (c)
Out: Voglsammer (foot)
Doubtful: -
Coach: Uwe Neuhaus

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
