It will be a close encounter when Werder Bremen head to the capital to face Union Berlin this Saturday. Read our reasons for Union Berlin vs Werder prediction and betting tips.
Despite going down 2-0 at Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, Union is still in the hunt for a place in Europe next season and the third win from four meetings with Bremen could soon have them reaching for their passports. Coach Urs Fischer will have to get used to a packed schedule with midweek matches if he does manage to lead Die Eisernen into Europe, and his side's third game in a week allows him to tinker in the kind of rotation that he hopes to have to deal with also next season.
He has plenty of options too, with Sheraldo Becker, Leon Dajaku, and Anthony Ujah the only confirmed absentees. Joel Pohjanpalo is an alternative to Petar Musa in attack, while Marius Bülter could feature on the wing. Union's only defeat at the hands of Werder came in their sole previous meeting at the An der Alten Försterei last season. They have won each of the other two matches in Bremen, meaning the away side has emerged victorious on each occasion. The visitors in this fixture have also scored twice in all three top-flight Union-Werder clashes.
Union: Luthe - Friedrich, Knoche, Schlotterbeck - Trimmel (c), Gentner, Andrich, Prömel, Lenz - Ingvartsen, Kruse - Musa
Out: Becker (ankle), Dajaku (foot), Ujah (knee)
Doubtful: Awoniyi (thigh)
Coach: Urs Fischer
Bremen fell below Mainz following a 1-0 defeat to the 05ers on Wednesday and Florian Kohfeldt's men need to keep a close eye on events over their shoulder with their current 30 points unlikely to be enough to keep them in the Bundesliga next season. At the same time, Kohfeldt needs to prepare his side for a DFB Cup semi-final with RB Leipzig on Friday and there could also be changes to his team given the opportunity of ending the season with some silverware. Christian Gross returns from suspension and he should take the place of Milos Veljkovic, who misses out with a broken nose.
Josh Sargent had a goal disallowed on Wednesday and the USMNT forward will be hoping to supply some valid strikes on Saturday, as he again leads the Bremen attack. Sargent has gone five games without a Bundesliga goal - all of which Werder has lost - since scoring in three successive games, which resulted in two wins and a draw. Having gone 17 games without a goal this term, Milot Rashica scored in successive outings against RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund.
Bremen: Pavlenka - Groß, Moisander (c), Friedl - Gebre Selassie, Eggestein, Möhwald, Augustinsson - Sargent, Rashica - Füllkrug
Out: Toprak (calf), Veljkovic (broken nose), Woltemade (knee)
Doubtful: Bittencourt (ankle), Plogmann (knee)
Coach: Florian Kohfeldt

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
