Verona has a good tradition on the newly promoted teams and Benevento arrives on Monday at the Bentegodi after a poor run.
Igor Juric’s Verona has won three of their four initial games against newly-promoted teams and they are currently unbeaten in three, including a 1-1 draw with Juventus in Serie A last time. They are the team to beat in the Seria A at the moment, with the great defensive organization but sometimes they lack creativity in the final third, and the percent of scored chances are below the level for the top tier of the league. The 3-3 match against Venezia in the Coppa Italia during the midweek has given Juric food for thought, as his men advanced only after penalties. Verona haven’t won in three games before the home game against the Benevento, but have picked up eight points in five games so far in this season, thanks to a 3-0 win by default against Roma in the first round of fixtures, after an administrative error from the visitors
Including the 3-0 win against SPAL in the last home game in Serie A 2019-20, Hellas has not conceded a goal at the Bentegodi in four League matches. Verona is two clean sheets at home away from matching their record of six consecutive clean sheets at the Bentegodi from May 1989 and one away from matching the five from 1971.
Verona was pushed in Coppa, as they were held 2-2 by Venezia, then it ended 3-3 in extra time until goalkeeper Pandur took center stage with two saves in the shoot-out.
Verona (3-4-2-1): Silvestri; Dawidowicz, Magnani, Empereur; Lazovic, Vieira, Tameze, Dimarco; Colley, Zaccagni; Kalinic
Suspended: none
Injured: Cetin, Danzi, Gunter, Benassi, Veloso, Favilli, Lovato, Ceccherini, Di Carmine
A great start to the campaign against Sampdoria in the first round has been followed by an inconsistent form for Filippo Inzaghi’s newly-promoted side, who have lost to three top teams in Inter, Roma, and Napoli. They certainly proved against Bologna and Sampdoria that Verona can’t take anything for granted on Monday, and Juric’s men are the only team in Serie A who haven’t scored in the first half so far this term.
Another setback in the Coppa Italia against Serie B side Empoli has further damaged the confidence of Benevento players, who are on a run of three consecutive defeats. Benevento has been knocked out after a 4-2 loss, Empoli came out comfortable winners and all six goals arrived in the second half. They had been hoping to progress in the tournament, but their journey ended early, as Pasquale Schiattarella saw red for Benevento on 80 minutes, making it even more difficult for his team, who capitulated to a Leonardo Mancosu hat-trick, a player that made his mark in the last season in the Seria A but got relegated with Lecce. Veteran ex-Napoli full-back Christian Maggio had managed a temporary equalizer.
Benevento (4-3-2-1): Montipo; Maggio, Glik, Caldirola, Letizia; Ionita, Schiattarella, Dabo; Insigne, Caprari; Lapadula
Suspended: none
Injured: Barba, Iago Falque

Verona still got a long list of absentees for several reasons, mostly due to coronavirus, so everything they made in this season so far is a huge bonus. Benevento's performances are like a rollercoaster, even in the one game, full of contrasts. Verona looks like a better team at the moment and maybe it is a time for Kalinić to score a goal that could give a home team a victory.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
