After Milan lost the pace in the Serie A title race, they will try to redeem on Sunday in a match with an impressive Verona. Read our reasons for Verona vs Milan prediction and betting tips.
Hellas Verona dominated sorry Benevento at the Stadio Vigorito, with a little help from the Daam Foulon's own goal, but there could easily have been more. The pressure was growing on Le Streghe, who were without a win in eight, and it was a bad start for Benevento because Gaetano Letizia went off in tears with an injury after just 11 minutes. Darko Lazovic got down the left and floated the cross over his head, finding Marco Davide Faraoni to nod in from close range. Mattia Zaccagni almost had a second moments later, his curler deflected wide, and every time Verona put in a cross from the left, it caused panic. That happened again on the second goal, as Daam Foulon tried to clear with an acrobatic header, but instead, just put it into his net. It was one-way traffic and Antonin Barak’s ferocious strike rattled the crossbar on 38 minutes, while Montipò rushed off his line to close down Lasagna. However, Lasagna got his first goal in the Verona jersey when he knocked down a long ball, turned, and ran forward, surprising Montipò at the near post when the goalkeeper had already made the move to cover the far stick.
Ivan Juric has Omar Colley (knee), striker Nikola Kalinic (hamstring), and Kevin Ruegg (ankle) ruled out, though has an otherwise fully fit squad to choose from. Adrien Tameze will be joined by either club captain Miguel Veloso or young Ivan Ilic - on loan from Manchester City - in the midfield pairing that knits together Juric's customary 3-4-2-1 formation. Meanwhile, in attack - given Kalinic's continuing absence - transfer window buy Kevin Lasagna will seek his first goal at home, having scored at Benevento last time out.
Verona: Silvestri; Gunter, Lovato, Dimarco; Faraoni, Veloso, Tameze, Lazovic; Barak, Zaccagni; Lasagna
Stefano Pioli said Milan ‘lacked quality and rhythm’ in the 1-1 draw with Udinese on Wednesday. The coach watched Franck Kessie win them a point with the last kick of the match from the penalty spot, as Udinese finished the match with 10 men. “We wanted to win, it’s a shame,” Pioli told the media. “We knew that it would be difficult against a team with everyone behind the ball. “I saw determination and a lack of clarity. There was a lack of quality and rhythm, not anger and determination.” Pioli said Milan struggled to win the duels against a physical Friuli. “We start again as always with the next match,” Pioli said. “Each game has its own story. On Sunday we found an opponent who wanted to play, Udinese instead plays this type of game. We had to get in more duels and the only duel we managed to win in the first half was when [Samu] Castillejo had the chance.”
Rafael Leao had a disappointing night against a compact Udinese defense and Pioli admitted Milan missed Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Mario Mandzukic. “I always expect a lot from my players,” Pioli said. “Rafa has characteristics more suited for attacking spaces. When he finds a closed defense, he still doesn’t have the shrewdness to anticipate the defender. “Today we lacked the right characteristics to face this type of match, we lacked the two real strikers in the squad. Leao and [Ante] Rebic have other characteristics.”
Zlatan Ibrahimovic could be out until the end of the month with a thigh injury suffered against Roma, so given ongoing doubts over the fitness of January signing Mario Mandzukic, young Rafael Leao is expected to continue leading the Milan forward line - offering a very different interpretation of the center-forward role to Ibrahimovic. Real Madrid loanee Brahim Diaz was a relatively ineffectual deputy for playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu on Wednesday, but the Turkish international remains absent so Diaz should be asked to continue in support of the frontman, while Alexis Saelemaekers may come in for Samu Castillejo on the right flank. Due to Ismael Bennacer's ongoing absence through injury, Sandro Tonali continues alongside mainstay Franck Kessie in the Rossoneri engine room. The Azzurri midfielder was replaced by Soualiho Meite during the break-in midweek, but coach Stefano Pioli has since confirmed his substitution was only a precaution.
Milan: Donnarumma; Calabria, Kjaer, Romagnoli, Hernandez; Kessie, Tonali; Saelemaekers, Diaz, Rebic; Leao

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
