Serie A strugglers Parma seek their first win under Roberto D’Aversa this season with Hellas Verona who lost their last two games in a row.
Ivan Juric admitted it was a mistake to start both Kevin Lasagna and Nikola Kalinic in the Hellas Verona attack: ‘I will pick just one of them from the next game.’ Verona suffered a 2-0 defeat away at Udinese on Sunday. “I would divide the game into two parts,” Juric told the media. “The first one was really bad, under many aspects. In the second half we played well until a mistake cost us a goal,” the coach continued. “We had some opportunities, we tried to dominate the game, but the defeat is deserved given the chances we conceded in the first half.”
New signing Kevin Lasagna started along with Ivan Kalinic in the Verona attack. “I still need to understand what movements Kevin wants to do. I want him to become a complete striker. During the week I had thought they could play together, but it didn’t work. I must choose between one of them from the next games.” The suspended Davide Faraoni and Mattia Zaccagni are the most notable absentees for Ivan Juric’s side. Nikola Kalinic is expected to start so Kevin Lasagna will wait for his minutes from the bench.
Hellas Verona (3-4-2-1): Silvestri; Dawidowicz, Gunter, Lovato; Lazovic, Ilic, Tameze, Dimarco; Barak, Bessa; Kalinic
Suspended: Faraoni, Zaccagni
Injured: Miguel Veloso, Favilli, Ceccherini, Benassi
Roberto D’Aversa claimed Parma ‘can’t do worse than this’ after a 3-0 home loss to Bologna, failing to score in eight consecutive home fixtures. The Ducali remain in penultimate place and yet again fired blanks, as the 3-0 home defeat to local rivals Bologna never seemed to be in doubt. Although the club has been very active in the January transfer window, most weren’t ready to start, with Dennis Man and Joshua Zirkzee coming off the bench. “We conceded the first goal from a set play and in the second there were eight of us behind the ball, yet we let it through anyway. We lack determination and need to get it back as soon as possible,” the coach told the media.
It’s no secret where the problems lie because Parma has now failed to find the net in eight consecutive Serie A home matches. “The only positive is that we can’t do worse than this, so the only way is up. There’s no point hiding from the difficulties we face. After a good week of work in training, I didn’t expect a performance like this. There are 17 games to go, we are only three points off the safety zone, so we need to knuckle down. There’s a long way to go.” Parma has seven players out of action with injuries, including their strikers Andreas Cornelius and Roberto Inglese, therefore Bayern Munich loanee Joshua Zirkzee is expected to start his first game with the Ducali.
Parma (3-4-3): Sepe; Bani, Bruno Alves, Osorio; Conti, Hernani, Kurtic, Gagliolo; Kucka, Zirkzee, Gervinho
Suspended: none
Injured: Nicolussi Caviglia, Laurini, Busi, Cornelius, Inglese, Valenti, Karamoh

Parma could win both games against Verona for the first time since the 1996-97 campaign but it would be a major surprise. Despite losses against Roma and Udinese, Verona is a much better team and should win the next match.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
