A goalless draw vs Roma gave Verona a sign that they are on the right path to avoid the relegation battle in this season and a good foundation for the match against Udinese on Sunday.
Hellas Verona is currently on three points despite only drawing their opener with Roma. Verona held Roma to a 0-0 draw, but that was turned into a 3-0 forfeit in favor of Hellas because Amadou Diawara was irregularly fielded due to an administrative error. It’s subject to an appeal, but already an important sign of luck for Ivan Juric to build on. They played more than a decent game against a strong rival but were unable to capitalize on several chances. Verona will hope to build on that and better last season's results against Udinese - a pair of draws - and pick up a first win of the season in the process. It was an important performance because of the injury crisis and boring transfer window.
Verona played some great mid-table football with wins against the bottom-half and defeats against the top-half. Verona was somewhat of a surprising story in last year and maybe overachieved with some great wins like a 2-1 victory over Juventus. They were headlined by great defense and solid counter-attacking and this is the way they will play in the new season.
They need victories against the lower-half teams for a calm season and to avoid stress regarding the relegation battle. Sanyek Du Carmine looked good in his limited appearances as the most dangerous player and will need to continue to surprise if they want to keep their mid-table status.
Verona head coach Ivan Juric has four players set to be sidelined until next month at least. Andrea Danzi, Alan Empereur, Giangiacomo Magnani, and Darko Lazovic are the quartet on the injury table for the hosts. The former two started against Roma, meaning Juric will be forced into some changes.
Verona (3-4-2-1): Silvestri; Cetin, Gunter, Lovato; Faraoni, Veloso, Tameze, Dimarco; Benassi, Zaccagni; Di Carmine
Suspended: None
Injured: Magnani, Lazovic, Empereur, Danzi, Dawidowicz
Udinese will play their first match of the season because their week 1 fixture postponed to September 30 because Spezia ended their campaign later via the Serie B promotion play-offs. Coach Luca Gotti can only hope the pre-season friendlies were not an accurate reflection of their form, as Udinese struggled against even the lowliest opposition. Struggling even against Serie C teams, it looks like another campaign battling relegation for the Friulani.
Coach Luca Gotti got results and the manager now has time to establish a culture at the club and hopefully implement whatever style of play he needs from his team. The profile of the players looks like it will be counter-attacking, and if that is the case the key will be to defend well and have efficiency at the other end of the pitch.
He also has a quartet of injuries to contend with, although some of that list may recover in time to feature. Rolando Mandragora and Mato Jajalo were expected to have recovered by now, but are not quite fit yet. Meanwhile, Jens Larsen and Bram Nuytinck are doubts. Rodrigo De Paul has been linked with a move to Leeds United and may also not feature.
Udinese (3-5-2): Musso; Becao, De Maio, Samir; Ter Avest, De Paul, Walace, Coulibaly, Ouwejan; Lasagna, Okaka
Suspended: None
Injured: Mandragora, Stryger-Larsen, Jajalo

Both teams have more of the same defensive approach and if everything goes without major errors in the last line this will be a goalless draw. Under 2,5 goals is our most reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
