Wales meet Denmark at the Johan Cruijff Arena (Amsterdam) in the EURO 2020 Round of 16 clash and the match kicks off at 5 pm (UK) on Saturday, June 26. Read our reason for Wales vs Denmark prediction and betting tips.
WALES VS DENMARK, UNDERDOGS CLASH IN ROUND OF 16
Wales finished second in Group A behind Italy to secure their place in the knock-out stage for the second successive European Championships, while a 4-1 win over Russia in their final group game saw Denmark move from last place to second and book a round of 16 meeting with Wales on Saturday. This will be the first meeting between the two nations since 2018 when Denmark won home and away in the UEFA Nations League. Both teams are heading into this match with real optimism but Denmark will be full of confidence after the manner of victory over Russia.
DRAGONS TIPPED TO BE COMPETITIVE
The Dragons have been inconsistent throughout the tournament but finished second in the group over Switzerland by having a better goal difference. Wales were probably a touch fortunate to draw 1-1 with Switzerland but put in a high-tempo performance to beat Turkey 2-0. Facing a red-hot Italy outfit in Rome was always going to be difficult but they showed great spirit to only go down 1-0 after having Ethan Ampadu sent off. Had the Dragons allowed one more goal, that would have seen them slipping down to third place.
Gareth Bale, Kieffer Moore and Dan James have impressed up front while the performances of Aaron Ramsey after a pre-tournament fitness scare have been a real boost. Add on a resilient rearguard and Wales look a well-balanced outfit capable of competing in this contest. Wales’ play very tough and physical football, focused on protecting their own goal. They have clearly got the taste for success at major tournaments, which could prove crucial here.
TIP #1: Wales did wonderfully well to finish second in their Euro 2020 group and are fancied to give Denmark a tough test at the last-16 stage. We like the odds for the Dragons to avoid defeat in normal time for our first Wales vs Denmark prediction.
SWITCHING FROM COPENHAGEN TO AMSTERDAM COULD HINDER THE DANES
Similar to the Welsh, Denmark have also had a pretty inconsistent run until the last game, which was also affected by the absence of their talisman Christian Eriksen. The heart attack to Eriksen marred their loss to Finland while they were blown away by a second-half comeback by Belgium. Denmark came back strongly in the game against Russia and the performance was very fluid in comparison to the first two games. It should also be noted that Russia looked a tired outfit and contributed towards their own downfall.
Denmark would be formidable foes if in the same mood but replicating that atmosphere in Amsterdam will be hard, even if their fans have been given the green light to attend. Denmark came to this championship as one of the best defenses in the world, but somehow, their superb backline stiffed, which resulted in four allowed goals. They will be up against an organised and efficient Wales team, and must be on top of their game for maybe more than 90 minutes.
TIP#2: Kasper Hjumland will again be hopeful that a 20-year-old Mikkel Damsgaard can perform as he did in the group stage and light up the tournament even more. For him to score at any time here is a stand-out bet.

Wales will be ultra-defensive, while Denmark won’t be too keen to attack and pressure the rivals, or at least they won’t do that in the first hour of the match. The Danes aren’t playing in Copenhagen anymore, which significantly changes the situation, so we expect a more careful approach from their side.
Final BettingKick’s Wales vs Denmark prediction is: Under 2.5 goals.
