WATFORD VS BARNSLEY MATCH ANALYSIS
Watford were always likely to win at the weekend against a Huddersfield squad that has been ravaged by injuries, but a 2-0 win will give Xisco Munoz's side plenty of confidence. The Hornets have claimed 10 points from their last four home league games and will hope for another three points here to stay in the top-six. As for Barnsley, the tenth-placed Tykes still have their sights on the play-off places despite their most recent defeats at the hand of leaders Norwich (1-0) and second-placed Swansea (0-2). Barnsley have been in fine form this season under Valerien Ismael and the good all-round performances against the two best sides in the league will give them confidence ahead of this visit.
The Hornets are definitely looking to get back to top-flight immediately and are hoping that a change of managers will galvanize the squad as Vladimir Ivic was sacked after his side’s 2-0 defeat at mid-table Huddersfield in December, just four months into his reign. Since Valérien Ismaël took charge, their record across all competitions is ‘W11, L7’ under the Frenchman. Without a single draw since then, it has been all or nothing for the Yorkshire side.
On the back of performing well at Manchester United in the FA Cup, Watford recorded a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday to give themselves a four-point cushion over the seventh position. Second-half goals from midfielder Tom Cleverley and young Brazilian attacker Joao Pedro ensured victory for Xisco Munoz's side. The Hornets initially struggled to make the breakthrough against the Terriers, but getting over the line will be all that matters, keeping the club within six points of automatic promotion with a game in hand.
Barnsley, on the other hand, Barnsley have started this new campaign in the same vein after miraculously escaping the relegation on the final day of the last season. They had been sitting near the relegation zone early in the campaign but have dramatically improved their form since then. The Tykes were without a win in their first seven matches, but their turnaround has been remarkable. In their next 17 matches, they have won 10 and lost 7 and got really close to play-off berths.
Against tough opposition, Swansea, at the weekend, the Tykes outshot promotion hopefuls 15-7, but Valerien Ismael’s men couldn't penetrate the division's best defence as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at Oakwell. Still, under little pressure to achieve anything more than avoiding a relegation battle, the Yorkshire outfit remain just six points behind Watford ahead of their upcoming showdown. With nothing to lose, they could play to win, but will probably settle for a point here.

In 15 previous encounters between the two sides, the record is exactly even. Watford have won six games, lost six, and drawn three. The hosts did win their last five home league matches against Barnsley, though this is their first game against the Tykes at Vicarage Road since March 2014.
Watford have won 29 points in 12 home league matches this campaign (W9 D2 L1) – four more than any other club has won home soil in 2020/21 and it gives them an edge over the visitors. However, Barnsley have suffered only their first back-to-back defeats in the league and haven’t lost three Championship matches on the trot since February 2020 under Gerhard Struber.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
