Watford host Millwall at the Vicarage Road (Watford) in the 44th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, April 24. Read our reasons for Watford vs Millwall prediction and betting tips.
The Hornets recovered from arguably their worst performance of the season in the derby against Luton with possibly their best, beating the league leaders 1-0 at the Carrow Road and putting themselves just one win away from sealing their return to the Premier League. The win eased some of the pressure and the focus now is on getting the job done in the next match. Meanwhile, Millwall have taken just one point from the last nine on offer in recent weeks. The Lions have had a tough run, losing 3-0 to Swansea and 4-1 to Bournemouth, either side of a stalemate against another promotion-chasing side in Brentford. Gary Rowett's side are now aiming to avoid back-to-back losses for the first time this calendar year, though 8th place is now ultimately the best that they can hope for.
On Tuesday night, it was obvious that Watford were motivated by the loss at Kenilworth Road and that the team had no interest in being part of an exhibition match for Norwich, who could have won the league title with a victory. The Hornets can also be proud of the fact that they still haven’t lost consecutive league games this season., which is a testament to their defence that has now kept 21 clean sheets so far this campaign, something which has surely helped their push for promotion.
This 1-0 victory was earned thanks to a 57th-minute Dan Gosling strike after a João Pedro cross, his second goal for the Hornets since arriving from Bournemouth in January. Watford also secured a 21st league clean sheet of the season and are now only one shy of the 22 earned in 1996/97, the second-highest in the club’s history. This success means the Hornets could now secure promotion with a victory on Saturday, though Munoz is not celebrating yet.
As for Millwall, the Lions dropped to 11th in the Championship table as rampant Bournemouth ran out 4-1 winners at The Den on Wednesday night. Bournemouth were brilliant in the first half as Millwall’s midfield three offered next to no protection for the defence and were beaten at ease time after time in the opening period. The Cherries would have troubled any team in the league on that display and Millwall can’t be too disheartened to be outclassed like that.
On the other hand, despite their play-off hopes appearing to be over the Lions manager will not accept his side switching off for the remainder of the season. Overall the Lions boss can be fairly happy with their campaign to date but has also admitted there is frustration that Millwall didn’t take their opportunity. Gary Rowett’s side are well-organized and hard to beat with only Swansea out of the top six taking maximum points out of their encounters so far this season.

Watford host Millwall in a league match for the first time since November 2014, winning 3-1 in the Championship. Millwall are winless in five away league matches against Watford (D1, L4) since a 2-0 win back in March 2006. Meanwhile, Watford have won their last seven Championship home games, last time winning more consecutive league games at Vicarage Road way back in November 1977 (8).
Ahead of kick-off, Watford will know whether they need a single point or all three to earn promotion. Nevertheless, the Hornets are tipped to win against Millwall, who have little left to play for, which is reflected in their recent results.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
