Watford host Norwich at Vicarage Road (Watford) in the 21st round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 7.45 pm (UK) on Saturday, December 26.
WATFORD VS NORWICH MATCH ANALYSIS
Watford head into this match having drawn against Brentford at home (1-1) and losing 2-0 to Huddersfield on the road, after picking up back-to-back wins against Rotherham and Birmingham. The latest defeat has pushed them down to 5th place with 34 points and another defeat or a draw could see them finish outside the top-six after the weekend. As for the visitors, a 2-1 away win over Reading gave the in-form Norwich their best start to a Championship campaign after 19 rounds since the division’s rebrand. They continued the hot five-game winning run last weekend with a 2-0 win against Cardiff and now top the league with 43 points, five from the second-placed Bournemouth.
The Hornets are definitely looking to get back to top-flight immediately and are hoping that a change of managers will galvanize the squad as Vladimir Ivic was sacked after just four months at the helm. The Hornets have been doing alright, having in mind the injury problems they had, but it was not enough for Ivic to keep his job. They have taken a few steps back in the race for automatic promotion lately but could get back on track with a home win against the leaders.
The Serb's sacking came after his side were beaten 2-0 at mid-table Huddersfield on Saturday -just their second defeat in 11 games - a spell in which they have also had four draws. It means Watford have appointed a fifth manager in just over a year. The latest man in the hot seat is Xisco Munoz, who is making a significant step up from Georgia’s Erovnuli Liga (Tier 1), and he is yet to draw a game in his fledgling managerial career to date in Dinamo Tbilisi (W8, L3).
Norwich, on the other hand, are safe at top of the table for the time being after they eased past Cardiff. The Canaries are determined to return to the Premier League and will stick to their attacking style of play against the Hornets. Finland attacker Pukki looks unstoppable at the moment, and he is likely to prove a handful on Saturday night. They travel to Watford without Byram, Hernandez, Idah, Krul, Mumba, and Quintilla, who are all sidelined with injuries.
Against the Bluebirds, Emiliano Buendia fired the hosts in front in the first half. Norwich missed a hatful of chances before Todd Cantwell eventually scored their second from the edge of the penalty area. In the end, it was a deserved win for the Canaries. They scored two good goals and had the chance to score a lot more. It was also a clean sheet victory that takes Daniel Farke's side five points clear at the top after second-placed Bournemouth’s goalless draw against Luton.

Xisco Munoz takes charge of his first game as Watford manager on Boxing Day. The Spaniard preferred a 4-2-3-1 system at Dinamo Tbilisi and will likely operate a similar system here. The history is on the hosts’ side with their 15 wins to Norwich’s 5 in their head-to-head matches. They also won both of their fixtures last season in the Premier League, which bodes well for the hosts.
Apart from Troost-Ekong, who has been added to the club’s extensive injury list after Huddersfield, the Canaries have six confirmed absentees for the trip to Vicarage Road on Boxing Day. Having in mind that Watford have a fantastic home record this season (W7, D2, L1) it will be a tough away test for the best side in the league.
BettingKick’s prediction for Watford vs Norwich match is: Norwich win.
