Watford host QPR at the Vicarage Road (Watford) in the 27th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 7.45 pm (UK) on Monday, February 1.
WATFORD VS QPR MATCH ANALYSIS
Watford quickly forgot about the introductory two defeats in 2021 and are on a four-game unbeaten run, with the latest match being a goalless draw against Millwall at the Den. They are in 3rd place, on goal difference below Swansea, and are very much in the automatic promotion race coming into the midweek’s match. On the other hand, visiting QPR come into this match on the back of two wins and the most recent 0-1 defeat against Derby at home. They ended a nine-game run winless run (D4, L5) in the league with those two victories but still remain dangerously close to the bottom three in the 18th place.
Watford are definitely looking to get back to top-flight immediately and are hoping that a change of managers will galvanise the squad as Vladimir Ivic was sacked after his side’s 2-0 defeat at mid-table Huddersfield in December, just four months into his reign. Since Valérien Ismaël took charge, their record across all competitions is ‘W13, D1, L7’ under the Frenchman. With just a solitary draw since then, it has been all or nothing for the Yorkshire side.
On the back of a good performance at Manchester United in the FA Cup, Watford recorded three consecutive wins in the Championship to give themselves an eight-point cushion for the play-offs, but are also trailing the leaders Norwich by six. Against Millwall, Xisco Munoz's visitors moved above Swansea into second, albeit just for 24h, despite missing out on a fourth successive Championship win mostly due to a poor playing surface that was not conducive to slick football.
As for QPR, the west Londoners scored 67 goals in last season's Championship campaign - a figure beaten only by Leeds, West Brom, Brentford, and Cardiff. However, 40 of these goals came from Eberechi Eze, Jordan Hugill, and Nahki Wells, all of whom now play their football elsewhere. They are still fun to watch, but this campaign has proven so far that they will struggle without those three.
Against Derby, last Saturday, QPR were seeking a third successive win. However, it came to nothing as they have now not scored in four home league games and stay 18th. The hosts rarely threatened to level after conceding. They saw plenty of the ball thereafter but lacked a threat and Derby saw out victory with little fuss. The final result was a bit harsh on the hosts as although they didn’t do enough to win the game, they didn’t deserve to lose it either.

Looking at the table, Watford is the obvious favourite here. However, this is the first league meeting between Watford and QPR at Vicarage Road since 2013 when they last shared the league. Watford have won three consecutive home league matches without conceding, but they haven’t won four since March 2014 ( 5 in a row).
QPR, on the other hand, have started the new calendar year on the road with a bang. They have won both of their two away league games in 2021 and are looking for the third one here. It may signal the lift in form for the visitors since they only won three out of their 22 away games in 2020 (D9, L10).
