Werder Bremen are ready to welcome in-form Freiburg on Saturday.
Milot Rashica has been slowly reintroduced to the Bremen side with substitute appearances in the last four league outings. He got the assist for Kevin Möhwald’s equalizer in the 1-1 draw at home to Schalke in their most recent Bundesliga outing, which was two Saturdays ago after their Matchday 20 fixture at Arminia Bielefeld was postponed due to snow. The extra break may have done a player like Sargent some good, considering the hard running he puts in for Die Grün-Weißen, who sit 11th coming into the weekend. Sargent has two goals and two assists so far this season. He was won more duels (195) and aerial challenges (45) and made more sprints (461) than any other Bremen player in 2020/21.
They are seven points off the top half with a game in hand, but only five above the relegation play-off place. Improving on their run of only one win in seven home games will be imperative for Florian Kohfeldt’s side, who are close to welcoming back joint-top scorer Niclas Füllkrug from his latest injury setback.
Bremen: Pavlenka - Veljkovic, Toprak, Friedl - Gebre Selassie (c), Eggestein, Möhwald, Augustinsson - Schmid, Rashica - Sargent
Out: Erras (muscular), Plogmann (knee)
Doubtful: Füllkrug (ankle)
Coach: Florian Kohfeldt
Freiburg makes the long trip north as one of the Bundesliga's forms teams. They beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 at home last Saturday, meaning the Black Forest club has won seven of their last 10 and lost only two league games since November (away at Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg). Their haul of 30 points after 20 matchdays is their best return under Christian Streich, while 35 goals are the most at this stage since 1994/95. Freiburg reverted to a back four against BVB, moving to within two points of them, but are expected to go back to their usual 3-4-3 formation.
Nils Petersen - a former Bremen player - remains their top scorer and bagged a brace on the last visit to the Weserstadion, but Ermedin Demirovic has been preferred of late. The 22-year-old Hamburg native has three goals and four assists since breaking into the team at the end of 2020. Petersen scored 18 goals in 72 competitive appearances for Werder between 2013 and 2015, before joining Freiburg. He’s Die Breisgauer’s joint-top scorer in 2020/21, along with Vincenzo Grifo, on seven goals.
Freiburg: Müller - Lienhart, Schlotterbeck, Gulde - Schmid, Santamaria, Höfler, Günter (c) - Jeong, Demirovic, Grifo
Out: Flekken (elbow), Kwon (knee), Sallai (ankle)
Doubtful: -
Coach: Christian Streich

Freiburg coach Christian Streich is fresh off marking his 275th match as a Bundesliga coach with his 88th win. He has claimed points in six of his seven top-flight visits to Bremen. Away win should not be a surprise on Saturday and it is our value betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
