In form Werder Bremen host winless Koln on Friday night in the opening match of week 7 in the Bundesliga.
Werder waited six matches for their main attacking option to score the goal, USA international Sargent has been an ever-present in the Bremen attack in 2020 but had to wait longer than expected to open his account for the new campaign. That was his seventh goal in 44 Bundesliga appearances and good enough to help Werder to earn a valuable point against Eintracht Frankfurt. Sargent is one of five different Bundesliga scorers for Bremen in 2020/21, along with Füllkrug, Leonardo Bittencourt, Davie Selke, and Maximilian Eggestein, while Chong was on target in the DFB Cup first round.
Their third successive 1-1 draw, extended the unbeaten run to five league matches. If Werder can stretch their hot streak by claiming a third win of the season, they could climb to a temporary fourth place in the standings.
Bremen's nice start is a very good sign following last season's relegation play-off escape. With Ludwig Augustinsson a doubt once more, head coach Florian Kohfeldt is expected to keep faith with Marco Friedl on the left side of the back three and Jean Manuel Mbom at wing-back. Manchester United loanee Tahith Chong made his fifth Bundesliga appearance and second start in Frankfurt but is expected to make way for fit-again forward Milot Rashica - a second-half substitute in Bremen's last two. The returning Rashica was Bremen's most potent attacking force last term with 11 goals and eight assists. He has scored two and laid on two more in three career games against Koln. Four-goal top scorer Niclas Füllkrug remains on the sidelines with a calf problem.
Bremen: Pavlenka - Veljkovic, Moisander (c), Friedl - Gebre Selassie, Eggestein, Groß, Mbom - Bittencourt, Rashica - Sargent
Out: Füllkrug (calf)
Doubtful: Augustinsson (thigh), Selke (groin)
Coach: Florian Kohfeldt
Werder turned around their season after a bad start and loss in the first match, but Koln has been in free fall. They lost 6-1 to Werder on the final day of last season, and have taken just two points from their first six matches in 2020/21. Only Schalke on goal difference and pointless Mainz have a worse record than a Koln team, winless in their last 16 Bundesliga matches.
Koln is close to their negative club record of 18 top-flight games without a win. However, there were shoots of promise in the 2-1 defeat to Bayern. They have only allowed seven shots on their goal - the lowest tally the champions have managed since Hansi Flick succeeded Niko Kovac as their coach last November.
Team captain, Jonas Hector is still out because of an injury, his absence hasn't done head coach Markus Gisdol any favors. The recently retired Germany international has been out since the Matchday 2 defeat to promoted Arminia Bielefeld and isn't expected back until after the November international break. With him starting last season, Koln picked up 0.92 points per game. Without former Germany left-back, that number dropped to 0.6.
Salih Özcan should keep his place in midfield, though Marco Höger is also in contention after four games out with a knee strain. Eighteen-year-old Jan Thielmann came off the bench to notch his second assist of the campaign in last Saturday's 2-1 reverse at home to leaders Bayern Munich and could replace Greece international Dimitrios Limnios out wide. Midfielder Florian Kainz is still out, but striker Anthony Modeste is on the mend.
Koln: T. Horn (c) - Wolf, Bornauw, Czichos, J. Horn - Skhiri, Özcan - Limnios, Duda, Jakobs - Andersson
Out: Hector (neck), Kainz (knee)
Doubtful: Modeste (thigh), Schmitz (ankle)
Coach: Markus Gisdol

Werder needs a big win to reward themselves for the good performances in the last rounds. Koln made a significant impact against Bayern but they are not reliable to give them trust at the moment. The home win is a reasonable bet and both teams score also a very probable betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
