Bremen and Stuttgart were unbeaten in seven league matches before tasting defeat on Matchday 9, so this match could be some kind of redemption story at the Weserstadion on Sunday.
USA national team forward Josh Sargent missed his first game of the season as an ankle injury ruled him out at the warm-up of the 5-3 defeat at Wolfsburg last Friday. The 20-year-old's return to the starting XI is welcome for Bremen, who have failed to win - though only lost once - in their last six Bundesliga outings.
Werder has scored at least once in their last 11 Bundesliga matches, with only Bayern able to lay claim to a longer scoring run. The Green-Whites have not found the net more than once in their four home matches so far this season. The two clubs have the same tally after nine games: W2, D5, L2. They’ve shipped 15 goals apiece, but Stuttgart has scored more - 17 to Werder’s 13.
While Sargent is back, Bremen boss Florian Kohfeldt will be without Milot Rashica after the Bosnia-Herzegovina international suffered a thigh injury in training that will keep him on the sidelines until the end of January. Yuya Osako and Tahith Chong are competing to replace him in the final third. Jean-Manuel Mbom - following an accumulation of five yellow cards - and Kevin Möhwald, sent off against Wolfsburg, are both suspended leaving Kohfeldt short of options in central midfield as he tries to orchestrate a first win since Matchday 3.
Bremen: Pavlenka - Gebre Selassie (c), Toprak, Friedl - Agu, Eggestein, Groß, Augustinsson - Sargent, Bittencourt - Osako
Out: Mbom (suspended), Möhwald (suspended), Rashica (thigh)
Doubtful: Füllkrug (calf), Veljkovic (groin)
Coach: Florian Kohfeldt
Stuttgart played well at home to Bayern Munich on Matchday 9 - and will be optimistic of better fortunes at the Weserstadion ahead of a testing Matchday 11 trip to Borussia Dortmund. The loss to the 2019/20 champions was Stuttgart's first since the opening day of the season, though Pellegrino Matarazzo's men have won just two of the seven matches sandwiched in between. Stuttgart is unbeaten away from home this season (W2, D2), but are winless in their last 11 in Bremen, dating back to September 2006 (D5, L6).
Gonzalez could return to the matchday squad after a quicker-than-expected recovery from a knee ligament injury that ruled him out of the Bayern game, though the Argentine, who has struck in each of his last three Bundesliga appearances, is unlikely to start. Sasa Kalajdzic should deputize. Sasa Kalajdzic is Stuttgart’s joint-top scorer on three goals, spread equally over Matchdays 1-3. He also has three assists to his name.
Stuttgart: Kobel - Stenzel, Anton, Kempf - Silas, Mangala, Endo, Sosa - Klimowicz, Castro (c) - Kalajdzic
Out: Al Ghaddioui (pelvis), Awoudja (Achilles tendon), Cisse (groin), Didavi (hip), Thommy (elbow)
Doubtful: Coulibaly (knock), Gonzalez (knee)
Coach: Pellegrino Matarazzo

This could be a good football thriller with both teams capable of playing at a high level and providing goals. Both teams to score looks like a sure betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
