Werder Bremen host Hertha BSC in matchday 1 of the Bundesliga on Saturday at Weser-Stadion.
Werder had a very difficult season and avoided relegation as a better team through play-offs with second-tier Heidenheim. There are several reasons for bad results and the biggest were injuries so Werder tried to bulk roster and avoid last year's mistakes. Many players with Bundesliga experience were signed and the biggest names are central defender Toprak from Dortmund and Bittencourt from Hoffenheim. Tahith Chong could make his Bundesliga debut following his loan move from Manchester United, after he scored on his first appearance for Bremen, coming off the bench to seal on a 2-0 victory at fourth-tier Carl Zeiss Jena in the first round of the DFB Cup.
Chong, the Netherlands U21 winger who scored five goals in six league games for Manchester United's U23s last season. USA striker Josh Sargent had the opening goal and this dynamic upfront duo is a big reason for Bremen fans to be optimistic going into the new season. Sargent scored three goals in four pre-season games for Bremen as well as in the DFB Cup first round. Bremen were lack of firepower and they are very short in creating chances. They scored a league fourth-lowest 42 goals last term, and only ensured their top-flight status via a play-off win over Heidenheim. Davy Klaassen and Milot Rashica are shaking off knocks from pre-season and could feature in this game.
Bremen: Pavlenka - Gebre Selassie, Veljkovic, Moisander (c), Augustinsson - M. Eggestein, Erras, Klaassen - Sargent, Selke, Chong
Out: Möhwald (match fitness), Toprak (calf)
Doubtful: Rashica (knee)
Coach: Florian Kohfeldt
Hertha had four different coaches last season: Ante Covic, Jürgen Klinsmann, Alexander Nouri, and latterly Labbadia, who had a good run of the results in the end, with four wins and three draws across the final nine matches. Hertha's fans had a not so well last weekend after they saw how their team is shaky in the defense in a 5-4 defeat at second-tier Eintracht Braunschweig in the DFB Cup. Head coach Bruno Labbadia must turn his focus on defensive duties because at the moment attack is a better part of the team. Cunha and Dodi Lukebakio - who struck twice - both got on the scoresheet and, interestingly, both attackers scored in two draws against Bremen last season. Cunha scored five goals in 11 games following his winter arrival from RB Leipzig. Lukebakio was Hertha's most potent attacking force over the whole campaign, though, contributing seven goals and six assists from the wing. In that match, Hertha Berlin had 66% possession and 25 attempts at goal with 7 on target.
Jhon Cordoba arrived from Koln, so options in the final third are good and capable of providing what is necessary for the team. The Colombian got 13 Bundesliga goals last season and he is ready for the debut. January signing Krzysztof Piatek is now really settled and ready to perform and French midfielder Lucas Tousart should get his chance to show skills to the Bundesliga fans.
Hertha: Schwolow - Zeefuik, Boyata, Torunarigha, Plattenhardt (c) - Tousart, Darida - Lukebakio, Cunha, Mittelstädt - Piatek
Out: Ascacibar (foot)
Doubtful: Dilrosun (thigh)
Coach: Bruno LabbadiaBest betting sites

Werder Bremen will be looking to make a flying start to the season after last year's struggle. Hertha traditionally is not so good traveler and the home team could take advantage of a great run in friendly matches when they dominated rivals. Bremen win is our preferable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
