Werder Bremen can welcome back US forward Josh Sargent, but RB Leipzig is without defender Dayot Upamecano at the Weser Stadium on Saturday. Read our reasons for Werder vs Leipzig prediction and betting tips.
Bremen top scorer Sargent missed last Sunday's 1-0 defeat to VfB Stuttgart through suspension but was back in action in midweek as Die Grün-Weißen beat second-tier Jahn Regensburg 1-0 to set up a DFB Cup semi-final showdown with Leipzig. Yuya Osako scored the decisive goal, the Japan attacker playing himself into contention for what would be only his seventh league start of the campaign. Ludwig Augustinsson and Sargent's own goals have put Werder behind in each of their last two league games. Injury-hit striker Niclas Füllkrug is back in the treatment room after breaking a toe against Stuttgart, while Maximilian Eggestein is suspended. Defender Milos Veljkovic could return in defense, though, with Christian Groß a candidate to move into midfield in the Eggestein role. Florian Kohfeldt's side begins the weekend in 13th, seven points clear of the relegation play-off spot they occupied at the end of last season. Werder has lost each of their last three Bundesliga matches and both of their previous two at the Weserstadion.
Bremen: Pavlenka - Veljkovic, Toprak, Friedl - Gebre Selassie (c), Groß, Möhwald, Agu - Osako, Rashica - Sargent
Out: Augustinsson (groin), Eggestein (suspended), Füllkrug (broken toe), Woltemade (knee)
Doubtful: Plogmann (knee)
Coach: Florian Kohfeldt
Leipzig is firmly on track for a third successive season of UEFA Champions League football, but their hopes of landing a maiden Bundesliga title are hanging by a thread. Last Saturday's 1-0 defeat to leaders Bayern Munich has left them seven points adrift in second place, with head coach Julian Nagelsmann proclaiming Die Roten Bullen "the better side, but Bayern champions" after the game. Upamecano returned from injury for the top-of-the-table clash but misses out in Bremen after collecting his fifth yellow card of the season. Countryman Ibrahima Konate could deputize for the Bayern-bound central defender, although Marcel Halstenberg is available again, giving Nagelsmann options. The coach is Nordi Mukiele but left wing-back Angelino has returned to training and should see action, if not 90 minutes. With Yussuf Poulsen nursing a thigh problem, Alexander Sorloth has been promised the No.9 role, with Emil Forsberg likely to drop to the bench. Nagelsmann took charge of his first Bundesliga match against Werder as Hoffenheim coach on 13 February 2016. That game ended in a 1-1 draw and he has since lost just once in nine subsequent meetings (W5, D4, L1).
Leipzig: Gulacsi - Konate, Orban, Halstenberg - Adams, Sabitzer (c), Kampl, Haidara - Olmo, Nkunku - Sörloth
Out: Mukiele (suspended), Poulsen (thigh), Szoboszlai (groin), Upamecano (suspended)
Doubtful: Klostermann (knee), Laimer (match fitness)
Coach: Julian Nagelsmann

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
