WEST BROM VS ARSENAL MATCH ANALYSIS
It’s been a tough start in the Premier League for WBA, who failed to win 15 of their 16 league games (W1, D5, L10). Following the club’s decision to appoint survival expert Sam Allardyce, the ‘Baggies’ became the first team to take a point off the reigning champions at Anfield this season but negated all that good work with a terrible showing in a 5-0 defeat to Leeds at home next. They remain 19th in the standings with 8 points coming into the weekend. On the other hand, two wins in a row, against Chelsea and Brighton, lifted some pressure off manager Mikel Arteta, who had seen his side go on a seven-game winless run in the league before that. They come to this match sitting in 13th place having picked up 20 points so far.
West Brom's fortunes showed no immediate turnaround with the managerial change, as they lost their opening game under new boss Sam Allardyce. But the Baggies seemed to be adapting to Big Sam's philosophy when they held league leaders Liverpool to a 1-1 draw away from home on the Boxing Day. However, after encouraging 1-1 at Anfield, Allardyce saw his team outclassed by a Leeds side which was also promoted from the Championship last season.
Against West Brom, Allardyce's pragmatic approach was destroyed by Bielsa's attacking philosophy in a one-sided first half. Leeds scored four goals in a rampant first-half display at The Hawthorns and were gifted the opening goal when home midfielder Romaine Sawyers buzzingly passed into his own net. From that point Leeds absolutely dominated. Ezgjan Alioski and Jack Harrison's strikes left Albion trailing 3-0, and Rodrigo's deflected shot put Leeds 4-0 ahead before half-time. There was no let-up for the hosts after the break as Raphinha curled beautifully into the top corner for the fifth.
The Gunners, on the other hand, defeated Chelsea emphatically on Boxing Day after being on a seven-game winless run in the league before that (D2, L5). However, their away form still remains alarming though, as they have scored for the first time from open play against the Seagulls, after failing to do so in any of their previous five PL fixtures on the road (W1, D1, L3). On a more positive note, for the Gunners, David Luiz and Willian will both be available after they missed the last game with an illness.
Mikel Arteta was pleased after they recorded back-to-back league wins for the first time since September by beating Brighton on Tuesday. Defeat at Everton on 19 December left them only four points above the relegation zone after 14 games - their worst start to the season since 1974-75. But fortunes changed with a surprise victory over Chelsea last weekend, which has now been followed up by this latest success.

West Brom surprised everyone by getting a point at Anfield, but they deserved it. They were well organised and showed the spirit in the draw, but the Leeds match exposed their weaknesses and showed the lack of quality they need to win games in succession. Allardyce had named the same starting XI which played at Anfield, explaining he wanted to build consistency, yet it appeared to backfire as one of that was evident against Leeds.
On the other hand, Arsenal are still in the wrong half of the table, but their wins over Chelsea and Brighton are expected to be the start of a good run for the Gunners. They should have some belief back now, for starters. However, Arsenal have actually failed to win on their last three trips to the Hawthorns (D1, L2) and it would be a huge set-back for Mikel Arteta if they slipped up again here.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
