West Brom host Liverpool at the Hawthorns (West Bromwich) in the 36th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 4.30 pm (UK) on Sunday, May 16. Read our reasons for West Brom vs Liverpool prediction and betting tips.
West Brom are already down with three games to play. Sam Allardyce did make the Baggies harder to beat but couldn't steer them clear of the drop. They have actually avoided defeat in four of their last five home meetings with Liverpool and held them to a draw in the reverse fixture earlier in Allardyce's tenure. Meanwhile, Liverpool earned a massive 4-2 win away to Man Utd on Thursday night, their first victory at Old Trafford in seven years. They now have a real chance of finishing in the top four but have to win their remaining games. Liverpool have surprisingly failed to score more than once in four of their last five trips to the Hawthorns but West Brom should be easy pickings for them now they are already relegated.
The Baggies have been burdened with adversity all through their season this campaign, but it’s not something they would have not expected, considering they just got promoted. And much to their disappointment, they haven’t produced results or performances when given the chance, especially against teams that aren’t in the top four. A barrage of losses and draws have bludgeoned their hopes of survival this time around. They will hope to turn it around with this fixture, but it’s easier said than done.
West Brom’s relegation was confirmed when they went down 3-1 at Arsenal, despite Matheus Pereira scoring a fine consolation for the Baggies. Captain Kyle Bartley insists Albion will not be downing tools as the season comes to a close, though. It should be noted that Albion have only drawn a blank once in their last six outings and their opponents here do still look open at the back. If they could nick something from the game it would be a huge blow for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool’s top-four hopes.
As for Liverpool, their Champions league pursuit was given a boost by results elsewhere and they seemed to be spurred on by that when winning 4-2 at Old Trafford. The Reds looked up against it when a deflected Bruno Fernandes shot went in. However, Diogo Jota’s opportunist strike leveled things up before Roberto Firmino bagged a fine brace on either side of the break. Marcus Rashford gave United hope of a late rally but Mohamed Salah made sure of the points with a well-taken breakaway goal.
The Reds have not lost their previous 6 Premier League games, a streak which involves 4 wins and 2 draws for the Merseyside club, who look to qualify for the lucrative Champions League next season, a failure to qualify making Liverpool no more an attractive option to purchase star signings. Liverpool will surely, at the very least, need to win all three of their remaining games, starting at West Bromwich on Sunday. They need to get to 69 points, by hook or by crook and cannot afford dropping points here.

West Brom meet Liverpool after drawing six of the last eight Premier League encounters against the Reds, with Liverpool winning the other two during the 2016/17 season. However, since losing three in a row between April 2012 and February 2013, Liverpool are unbeaten in 11 Premier League matches against West Brom (W4, D7).
Liverpool were back on fire as an attacking force when beating Man Utd in midweek and will now be expected to brush aside West Brom. The Reds know that three more wins to finish off the season will earn them a Champions League spot and Jurgen Klopp will call for more clinical finishing up front.
