West Brom host Southampton at the Hawthorns (West Bromwich) in the 31st round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 6 pm (UK) on Monday, April 12. Read our reasons for West Brom vs Southampton prediction and betting tips.
Sam Allardyce will understandably consider fielding an unchanged side on Monday after drubbing Chelsea 5-2 last weekend. The Baggies will be confident after inflicting Thomas Tuchel his first defeat as Chelsea boss, but they could also be 11 points from safety by the time this game starts. Allardyce's side simply have to kick on from here to have any chance of beating the drop. On the other hand, the Saints produced a fabulous fightback to beat Burnley 3-2 on home turf. Having already booked the club a spot at Wembley for April's FA Cup semi-finals, things are looking a bit rosier for Ralph Hasenhuttl's side.
West Brom still look set for a quick return to the Championship but that shouldn’t take anything away from their incredible triumph at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea took a 27th-minute lead but Thiago Silva’s red card soon after for a second booking turned the game on its head. Matheus Pereira’s fine brace sparked Albion’s stunning west London rout, Callum Robinson bagged a double of his own, and Mbaye Diagne also hit the net.
The Baggies are still eight points from safety, so the odds are huge on them pulling off a great escape. However, they have lost just one of their last five home matches, beating Brighton here and drawing with Fulham, Man United and Newcastle. Portsmouth and West Ham went on to secure Premier League survival from similar positions in 2006 and 2007 respectively, but 19th-placed West Brom will need to continue winning to haul themselves out of trouble.
As for Southampton, the Saints are all but safe on 36 points in 13th place after recovering from being 2-0 behind inside half an hour to beat Burnley at St Mary’s. Strikes from Stuart Armstrong, Danny Ings, who was involved in each of the goals on his return from a month-long injury absence, and Nathan Redmond did the damage as Saints followed up a 3-0 FA Cup win over Bournemouth in thrilling fashion.
Being 10 points above the drop zone should allow Saints to play with freedom at The Hawthorns, though, and an open contest could be on the cards. Walcott and Ings have, after the break, returned to the first-team in a big boost for their manager, but even without them, Saints looked livelier, a side full of chance-creators against Bournemouth last time out. With an FA Cup semi-final on the horizon, things aren't looking too bad for Southampton following a really poor run of form.

West Brom meet Southampton having previously lost their last four Premier League matches against the Saints, as many as in their first 13 against them in the competition. Moreover, the Saints are looking to win three consecutive away league games against the Baggies for the first time, and could also do a league double over the Baggies after celebrating a 2-0 win in the reverse fixture at the St. Mary’s in October. The two teams go into Monday evening’s clash at The Hawthorns on the back of high-scoring victories and we expect a high-scoring affair again.
