West Brom host West Ham at the Hawthorns (West Bromwich) in the 37th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 8.15 pm (UK) on Wednesday, May 19. Read our reasons for West Brom vs West Ham prediction and betting tips.
West Brom came perilously close to holding Liverpool to a 1-1 draw, but a late Alisson header won it for the Reds at the death. The Baggies are now winless in five and there is still a risk that they will finish bottom of the league. Meanwhile, West Ham’s slim hopes of challenging for a top-four finish faded when they were held to a 1-1 draw at Brighton. A run of one win in five has seen that dream go up in smoke, but they are still able to secure a top-six finish and come into the midweek games level on points with Tottenham.
The Baggies have been burdened with adversity all through their season this campaign, but it’s not something they would have not expected, considering they just got promoted. And, much to their disappointment, they haven’t produced results or performances when given the chance, especially against teams that aren’t in the top four. A barrage of losses and draws have bludgeoned their hopes of survival this time around. They will hope to turn it around with this fixture, but it’s easier said than done.
West Brom’s relegation was confirmed when they went down 3-1 at Arsenal, despite Matheus Pereira scoring a fine consolation for the Baggies. However, captain Kyle Bartley insists Albion will not be downing tools as the season comes to a close, though. It should be noted that Albion have only drawn a blank once in their last seven outings and their opponents here have looked open at the back recently. If they could nick something from the game it would be a huge blow for David Moyes’ top-four hopes.
As for West Ham, The Hammers have slumped at the worst possible moment, as it looks like a top-four finish is now beyond them. They have lost three of their last five (W1, D1) following a disappointing 1-1 draw against the Seagulls at the AMEX Stadium, but a Europa League spot is still up for grabs. West Ham have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last nine Premier League matches, but have picked up 28 points on the road this season – their joint-best away points haul in a single campaign in the competition.
The Hammers had previously also prevailed 2-1 at Burnley, though, and won 3-2 at Wolves last month before going down by the same scoreline at Newcastle, so they have been scoring goals on the road. Starting as favourites may also suit West Ham as they own a win-rate of 66.67% (W4, D2, L1) on the travels against lower opposition. The Hammers can’t afford any more slip-ups if they are to qualify for Europe, but they are visiting West Brom at just the right time as the host don’t have anything but pride to play for.

West Brom meet West Ham having previously won just two of their last 16 Premier League meetings with The Hammers (D9, L5), winning 1-0 in April 2014 and 4-2 in September 2016. Moreover, West Ham are looking to complete their first league double over West Brom since 2005/06. The Hammers are unbeaten in four against the Baggies, winning the last two in a row (D2).
Whichever way we look at it, West Ham have more to play for in the final week of the season and should keep the pressure on the Spurs by claiming the three points on Wednesday night.
