West Ham host Arsenal at The Olympic Stadium (London) in the 29th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Sunday, March 21. Read our reasons for West Ham vs Arsenal prediction and betting tips.
West Ham are three points off fourth and need to get back to winning ways to stay on track for European football after last weekend's disappointing 1-0 defeat against Manchester Utd. The top four still remains a realistic dream for the Hammers who have accumulated a remarkable 21 points more than what they had at this stage of last season. Meanwhile, the Gunners lost 1-0 at home to Olympiacos on Thursday but the result was good enough to see them through to the quarter-finals of the Europa League. Arsenal also head into this derby match on the back of a 2-1 win against Tottenham in a more famous north London derby last weekend.
West Ham adopted a rather disappointing approach to last week’s 1-0 defeat at Manchester, considering they had previously registered three wins and a narrow loss to City. Only a Craig Dawson's own goal settled the issue at Old Trafford but it was a pretty tepid performance from the Hammers, who had been talked of as dark horses for a top-four finish. There was a bit of a late flurry from the visitors, but it proved a case of too little, too late.
That left West Ham three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, but they do still have a game in hand, so all is not lost in the quest to make the leading quartet. Sheffield Utd, Tottenham, and Leeds have been beaten in the last three games at this venue, with the Hammers showing far more ambition and scoring seven goals. Let’s hope they come to play this weekend because they seek to maintain their top-four charge when they welcome Arsenal for a crucial capital derby in the Premier League this Sunday.
On the other hand, Arsenal have only lost to Man City in their last five top-flight fixtures and made it three wins during that period when coming from behind to beat Tottenham 2-1. Erik Lamela opened the scoring for Spurs with a wonderful Rabona finish but was later sent off for two bookable offenses. In between those incidents, Martin Odegaard’s deflected strike levelled things up before Alexandre Lacazette converted from the spot following a foul by Davinson Sanchez.
Although still seven points adrift of the Hammers, they have to try and continue in this way, try to improve. The Gunners have also done well in the Europa League versus Benfica and Olympiacos and seem to have built up quite a bit of momentum, not to mention team spirit. Lacazette is going along nicely with a dozen goals this season and has opened the scoring in the last couple of games between these teams. On a more worrying note, Arteta’s men have now failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 11 matches in all competitions.

West Ham meet Arsenal having previously won just three of their 24 Premier League home games against the Gunners (D8, L13). Arsenal have completed the Premier League double over West Ham on 11 previous occasions, more than they have against any other side in the competition and can repeat the feat again with a win here after celebrating a 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture at the Emirates back in September.
The Gunners have probably impressed more in recent weeks, but only Man City have recorded more home wins than the Hammers this term, so this is a tough place to visit. The midweek defeat to Olympiacos would hardly have inspired much confidence within their ranks, and with a Champions League-chasing West Ham boosted by the return of a rejuvenated Lingard, BettingKick’s West Ham vs Arsenal prediction is: Both teams to score.
