West Ham host Chelsea at the Olympic Stadium (London) in the 33rd round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 5.30 pm (UK) on Saturday, April 24. Read our reasons for West Ham vs Chelsea prediction and betting tips.
This contest could have a huge bearing on the Premier League top-four placings, with both teams level on points in fourth and fifth with six games left to play. Chelsea are odds-on favourites to prevail but were left frustrated by a goalless stalemate against Brighton at Stamford Bridge last time out. Given that Tuesday’s European Cup trip to Real Madrid is on the horizon, while the Hammers are unbeaten in five home games and have not lost to the Blues at London Stadium for the past three seasons, the Hammers are at least capable of avoiding defeat.
Despite the defeat at Newcastle West Ham can take some positives from their loss as they head into a vital clash against Chelsea in the Premier League top-four race next weekend. The fightback in the second half shows that no matter what circumstances the Hammers find themselves in, this West Ham team never know when they are beaten. There were also a number of negatives from this game, none more so than conceding their eighth, ninth and tenth goals in their past four games, something David Moyes will have to work on going forward.
West Ham had previously picked up 13 points out of 15 on home turf, which included fixtures against Tottenham, Leeds, Arsenal and Leicester. They have gone 18 games at London Stadium since last failing to hit the back of the net here, so Chelsea will have a tough job taking anything from this London derby. Saturday evening at home to Chelsea can be a chance to show Newcastle was just a blip and West Ham are still Champions League contenders. Lose and realistically that could be the end of the Hammers' top-four hopes.
On the other hand, an incident-packed night off the field, which saw the European Super League proposal collapse, wasn’t matched by events on the pitch on Tuesday night. The Blues had 64 per cent of the possession, but Brighton went closest to breaking the deadlock when Danny Welbeck hit the bar from long range. Thomas Tuchel felt facing Porto in the Champions League and Man City in the FA Cup semi-finals may have affected his team. Given that Tuesday’s European Cup trip to Real Madrid is on the horizon, Tuchel faces some tough selection headaches again here.
Thomas Tuchel changed up the team on Wednesday night after an important win over Man City, but his moves didn’t pay off, and the side looked disjointed and sluggish throughout against Brighton. However, Chelsea leapfrogged West Ham on goal difference back into the Premier League top four – with Champions League qualification regaining full significance now the universally-condemned ESL appears doomed. On a day like Wednesday, it was hard to be too focused on a bad result though, and Tuchel has plenty of credit in the bank already.

West Ham meet Chelsea having previously won three of their last five home league games against the Blues (D1, L1), as many as in their previous 14 against them. They last won back-to-back home league games against Chelsea in May 2003. Only Man City (38) have won more points in Premier League home games this season than West Ham (31), who are also unbeaten in their last five home top-flight London derbies (W3, D2). Meanwhile, Chelsea are unbeaten in all nine of their away games under Thomas Tuchel in all competitions (W7, D2) – no manager has ever remained unbeaten in their first 10 on the road in charge of the Blues.
