West Ham host Sheffield Utd at the Olympic Stadium (London) in the 24th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 6 pm (UK) on Monday, February 15. Read our reasons for West Ham vs Sheffield Utd prediction and betting tips.
West Ham are having a brilliant campaign in the top-flight and are actually in the running for the Champions League places in the table. David Moyes’s side are sixth in the standings at the moment with 39 points from 23 matches, just a point behind fourth-placed and defending English champions Liverpool. The Hammers come into this game on the back of a goalless draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage last weekend. As for Sheffield Utd, the Blades have a thing going. Three PL wins and three defeats is their recent run of form, so confidence will be flowing after making the quarters of the Cup and Michail Antonio’s touch-and-go status further boosts Chris Wilder’s good feeling. A win and a Fulham defeat would bring them one point behind 18th, not much in the grand scheme but any progress is welcome with more than enough games left to survive.
The Hammers were beaten 3-1 at home by Liverpool on January 31 to seemingly burst their bubble after a great festive run, but the champions’ recent struggles mean David Moyes‘ side sit just a point off fourth place after 23 games. Much will depend on the fitness of Michail Antonio during the run-in, but Jesse Lingard has arrived to bolster Moyes’ options – and his 3-1 brace at Aston Villa was a fine start to life at the Hammers.
However, West Ham were held to a goalless draw at Fulham last time out, and Moyes knows his side must pick up three points against the likes of rock-bottom Sheffield Utd if they are to seriously push for Champions League qualification. Indeed, their tally of 39 points from 23 games is their highest at this stage of a top-flight season since 1985-86, when they went on to finish in third place.
It could be argued that the FA Cup has contributed to an upturn in fortunes for Sheffield Utd in the Premier League in recent weeks. The Blades have taken the cup seriously and used it to get back on the winning ways. They do not lack effort or commitment but, yet again, that has not been enough for them as the Blades seemed unable to hurt the Premier League teams.
Besides winning in the FA Cup, Chris Wilder’s side have been really competitive in the Premier League even when they've lost - against Manchester City and Chelsea recently when they went down by a single goal each time. However, they are aware of their predicament and Chris Wilder admitted himself that his team need an "incredible run" to avoid relegation after their awful start to the season.

West Ham and Sheffield Utd rivalry dates back to when a controversial Carlos Tevez winner kept West Ham in the Premier League at the expense of Sheffield United way back in 2007. They have faced each other four times since then and each match has seen under 2.5 goals. Expect a similar game here, particularly if West Ham are missing a load of key players.
The Hammers would seem to have the better team, but if Michail Antonio is forced out of the starting eleven, there is little to replace him upfront. It is those kinds of limitations that could ultimately end West Ham’s dream of European qualification this season. Meanwhile, the Blades have won a few games since the turn of the year but still have a long way to go before there is any real chance of Premier League survival.
BettingKick’s West Ham vs Sheffield Utd prediction is: Under 2.5 goals

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
