Wout Weghorst and Wolfsburg are looking for their first win of the season against Florian Niederlechner and Augsburg on Sunday.
Wolfsburg is playing good football but they avoided that best feeling there is out there, the taste of victory. Oliver Glasner's side is also undefeated after draws with Bayer Leverkusen and Freiburg in which they showed that defensively, they could be among the best teams in The Bundesliga. On the other side, they suffered in the final third, and their big weapon, set-pieces didn’t work out until now like in the last season. The Wolves are also looking to bounce back from the disappointment of a UEFA Europa League play-off defeat to AEK Athens on Thursday, so they will not have that good distraction of playing European football in the new season. Offensive problems start with their last season's top scorer Weghorst who is still chasing his first goal of the domestic campaign with Josip Brekalo the only Wolfsburg player to find the back of the net in the Bundesliga. Weghorst bagged a hat-trick as Wolfsburg recorded their biggest-ever Bundesliga win by beating Augsburg 8-1 on the final day of the 2018/19 season.
Weghorst and Brekalo can be their dynamic duo that needs support from Admir Mehmedi continuing in the No.10 role. First-choice goalkeeper Koen Casteels could be missing, though, after he pulled up with a knee problem in the warm-up before the Freiburg game. Pavao Pervan is on standby and he showed glimpses of the great goalkeeper in the last match with some impressive saves. Ridle Baku joined from Mainz on Thursday and could be an immediate solution to the Wolves' right-back problem, with William and Kevin Mbabu injured. Wolfsburg is without a win in six Bundesliga home games, which is their longest such run since going eight in 2017/18.
Wolfsburg: Pervan – Baku, Guilavogui (c), Lacroix, Roussillon – Schlager, Arnold – Steffen, Mehmedi, Brekalo – Weghorst
Out: Mbabu (knee), Pongracic (glandular fever), William (knee)
Doubtful: Casteels (knee), Victor (groin)
Coach: Oliver Glasner
Augsburg is enjoying their best start to a Bundesliga campaign in its 11th consecutive top-flight season. Win over Union Berlin and a big surprising victory on Borussia Dortmund last time out have given Augsburg maximum points and maximum confidence. This is the first time in their 10 Bundesliga campaigns that Augsburg has started with back-to-back wins. It’s also the first time they’ve ever ended a matchday in the top two. Heiko Herrlich's side has had five different scorers already this term, although last season's 13-goal top scorer Niederlechner is yet to find the target. His place in the starting line-up is safe though because his style of play helps others around him to be better. Ruben Vargas is fighting to be fit having missed out with a muscular injury last weekend, with Andre Hahn expected to continue out wide should the Swiss remain on the sidelines. They are winless in five against Wolfsburg, but if there is a time to break some tradition, it should be now.
Augsburg: Gikiewicz – Framberger, Gouweleeuw (c), Uduokhai, Iago – Caligiuri, Khedira, Gruezo, Hahn – Gregoritsch, Niederlechner
Out: Moravek (muscular)
Doubtful: Löwen (muscular), Vargas (muscular)
Coach: Heiko Herrlich

Wolfsburg and Augsburg are not teams that could create many chances and their strength is in good defensive positioning. Our preferable bet is under 2,5 goals.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
