How many goals can Wout Weghorst add to his record when Wolfsburg takes on Union Berlin on Saturday kick-off? Read our reasons for Wolfsburg vs Union Berlin prediction and betting tips.
Having looked nailed on for third-place after just one defeat in 13 matches from Matchday 15-27 (W9, D3, L1), Wolfsburg's top-four hopes are now under threat. The loss to Borussia Dortmund made sure of that - Wolves' third from their last four in the Bundesliga (W1, L3). Their fate is still in their own hands, however, and victory over Union could put them on the brink of confirming their return to the UEFA Champions League next season. Weghorst has scored six in his last eight league appearances and will shoulder the bulk of the attacking responsibility once more, with youngster Bartosz Bialek and Renato Steffen sidelined through injury.
Weghorst has had a direct hand in exactly half of Wolfsburg’s 54 goals so far this Bundesliga season, with 20 of his own and seven assists. Ridle Baku is Wolfsburg’s next best scorer with six, while Maxi Arnold has five assists. Wolfsburg tops the league-wide charts for most sprints, with an average of 253 per game, but it’s Union who covers the most ground (75 miles per 90 minutes).
Wolfsburg: Casteels (c) - Mbabu, Lacroix, Brooks, Otavio - Schlager, Arnold - Baku, Gerhardt, Brekalo - Weghorst
Out: Bialek (knee), Steffen (ankle)
Doubtful: Pongracic (foot)
Coach: Oliver Glasner
Union's European hopes are still well and truly alive, with just four points separating them from Bayer Leverkusen in sixth-place. It won't be easy to secure, as Urs Fischer's side still have Die Werkself and RB Leipzig to come after Wolfsburg but one defeat in their last five (W2, D2, L1) has ensured that they've kept pace. Joel Pohjanpalo's hat-trick - his first goals since Matchday 6 - secured a 3-0 win over Werder Bremen and should also guarantee that he features from the bench once again. Top-scorer Max Kruse was withdrawn at halftime after picking up a knock in that win but should be fit, but the same can't be said for fellow attackers Leon Dajaku, Sheraldo Becker, Anthony Ujah, and Cedric Teuchert.
Kruse has registered 10 goals and five assists in 19 Bundesliga appearances for Union. He contributed six and eight respectively in 32 top-flight outings in Wolfsburg colors in 2015/16. Pohjanpalo has two hat-tricks to show for his 10 Bundesliga starts to date. His other six goals in the German top-flight are spread over 27 substitute appearances. There is more encouraging news on Taiwo Awoniyi, however, who is now back in training after three months out.
Union: Luthe - Friedrich, Knoche, Schlotterbeck - Trimmel (c), Andrich, Prömel, Lenz - Ingvartsen, Kruse - Pojhanpalo
Out: Becker (ankle), Dajaku (foot), Teuchert (knee), Ujah (knee)
Doubtful: Awoniyi (thigh)
Coach: Urs Fischer

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
