WOLVES VS ARSENAL MATCH ANALYSIS
Wolves’ woes continued as Saturday's 1-0 Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace left them winless in eight league fixtures (D3, L5). Adrift of the battle for European qualification, they’re not yet embroiled in a relegation fight but have now slipped to 14th and allowed Crystal Palace to leapfrog them to 13th. As for the visitors, Arsenal edged closer to the top-six and European berths with a 0-0 stalemate against title contenders Man Utd on Saturday. They are in 10th only 2 points behind Tottenham in 6th after going seven matches without a loss (W5, D2).
Wolves only got wins in the FA Cup - in Round 3 against Crystal Palace and Round 4 at Chorley - from their last ten fixtures in all competitions. The Midlands club have fallen from 7th to 14th in the table and keeping a clean sheet has also been Wolves' problem - they kept a score to nil in the league only once in 15 matches. Nuno says he is very concerned about the situation, but it is unlikely his side will be caught up in a relegation battle.
Having their best player out injured has taken its toll as it would for any club. The Mexico international Raul Jimenez’s absence has again shown the bluntness in the attack against Palace on Saturday, with youngster Fabio Silva still learning his trade. Wolves were hoping to build on a hard-earned point at Chelsea in midweek but instead ended up going backwards at Selhurst Park.
Arsenal, on the other hand, are in a much better place than they were a month ago. The Gunners are winning football matches, playing well while keeping clean sheets. Mikel Arteta has got Arsenal out of their slump and it has coincided with giving some of his younger squad members the chance to prove their worth. Following a run of seven league games without a win in November/December, the Gunners have won five of their last seven (D2), shipping just two goals in that run and scoring 13.
Against United, the Gunners also showed promising signs. Mikel Arteta suffered a couple of significant injury blows before kick-off when Bukayo Saka and Kieran Tierney were ruled out, adding to the absence of leading striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was missing for personal reasons. With all that in mind, he won’t be too unhappy with this point against United.

Where has it all gone wrong for Wolves? The manner in which his side handed over the points in their eighth successive PL match without a victory will be a major concern. Against opponents who had also been struggling for form, it was only during the last 10 minutes when the Palace goalkeeper, Vicente Guaita, was under threat. Without creativity in the final third and with leaky defense, Nuno Espirito Santo, will find it hard to steady the ship.
Arsenal, however, have really built the momentum ahead of this match. After spending a better part of the season in mid-table, they have now caught up with the top six teams. The main question for the Gunners ahead of this match will how well will they cope without Kieran Tierney and Bukayo Saka – who withdrew with a hip problem – plus Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has needed to quarantine after attending to a family crisis back in France.
