Wolves host Aston Villa at the Moulinex Stadium (Wolverhampton) in the 12th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 12.30 pm (UK) on Saturday, December 12.
WOLVES VS ASTON VILLA MATCH ANALYSIS
Wolves were unbeaten in four games (W3-D1) before losing to Leicester (1-0) before the international break. Since then, they have picked up four more points, from a home draw against the Saints (1-1) and a win at the Emirates (1-2) last weekend. However, they lost comfortably to defending champions Liverpool (4-0) last weekend, which puts them in 10th place with 17 points. As for Aston Villa, they got off to a fantastic start, having won their first four league matches, but have since suffered five defeats in eight games (W3-L5), most recently against West Ham (2-1) in London. They shipped eleven goals in the process and conceded 2+ goals in all matches bar one. One win in the last five league games has been enough for 12th place with 15 points, albeit with two games in hand.
The Wolves have upped their form recently. After losing key players Matt Doherty and Diogo Jota to other Premier League clubs, it took Wolves a little time for new players to ease in. The loss of Raul Jimenez through head injury is a big blow, but youngsters like Pedro Neto and Max Kilman have established themselves in the first XI. However, after their win against Arsenal, Wolves are yet to score more than twice in a Premier League match so far this season, with the bottom two sides Burnley and Sheffield Utd, the only other sides yet to do so.
Their most recent match against the Reds was definitely not the game to put an end to that negative record as Liverpool welcomed the return of fans to Anfield for the first time since March with an emphatic victory over Wolves. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men were largely contained by the home side but had a glimpse of hope when the referee awarded them a penalty in the first half, which was overturned after review. They had only 29% possession, a sign of how dominant Liverpool were on the night.
Villa, on the other hand, suffered a huge dip in their form recently, with the team experiencing all sorts of defensive problems in three straight home defeats - to Leeds (0-3), Southampton (3-4), and lastly, Brighton (1-2). Villa were deservedly second-best in those games, unable to compete with the visitors' intensity and energy, but they nevertheless found the energy to demolish Arsenal at the Emirates (0-3) on matchday 8.
Their last weekend’s match against Newcastle was postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak, meaning they now have two games in hand and had plenty of rest ahead of this weekend’s match. It means that their last PL game was their home defeat to West Ham on November 30 where they fell behind immediately after the second half started, and despite plenty of chances to draw level, and with the VAR ruling the Watkins goal offside, the Hammers manage to hold on to three points.

Wolves have won both of their last season’s head-to-head matches against Villa with a 3-1 aggregate score. They now have only the slightest margin for victories against Villa, having won 5 matches to Aston Villa’s 4 since 2010.
Defeat against Liverpool was Wolves' joint-heaviest margin of defeat in a Premier League game since their return to the division in 2018 (4-0 v West Ham in September).
Wolves welcome Aston Villa without their key striker Raul Jimenez, who fractured his skull in a horrific collision with Arsenal defender David Luiz last week.
The Villans are winless in four of their last five Premier League games. They have also kept a clean sheet only once in the last five matches.
Dean Smith’s side had won all three of their previous away games before West Ham.
Jack Grealish has been directly involved in 10 goals in the Premier League this season – a feat only bettered by Spurs pair Harry Kane (16) and Son Heung-Min (11).
