In the duel of Portuguese coaches, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Olympiacos meet at Molineux on Thursday in last 16 round matchup of Europa League with the English side in a slight advantage because of the away goal rule after the first match in Greece was finished in a 1-1 tie.
Wolverhampton was one of the biggest pleasant surprises in the Premier League in the last season. They were playing great, attractive football with several players that caught attention like Jimenez, Traore, Jota, and Doherty, and their coach Nuno Espirito Santo was praised for consistency even though he didn't rotate squad that played in several competitions. But in the end, they had three defeats in the last six matches and dropped down to the seventh position on the table that didn't provide a Europa League spot for the next season. Arsenal won FA Cup vs Chelsea and took that place. Now they must show quality and stamina to play several games in a short time window and win this competition to earn a Champions League spot.
Several days of vacation could help because as we already mentioned their roster was short and players looked tired at the end of the Premier League campaign. On their good day, Wolves could do anything and that was proven many times in this season, Man City players surely know that after the epic turnaround at Molineux when Pep Guardiola side had a two-goal lead in the 55th minute but Traore, Jimenez and Doherty scored three times for final 3-2 win. This EL challenge could be crucial for Jimenez and Traore who are on high demand from several big clubs and they want to show their quality in such matches.
Nuno Espirito Santo doesn't have a problem with injuries and he could play his best eleven with a team that held them before the coronavirus pandemic. Despite having a man more on the pitch with Semedo red-carded after half an hour, Olympiacos scored first but Wolves responded for final 1-1 draw.
On the other end, Olympiacos are on their best emotions in awhile. They were the dominant force in Greek football for almost 20 years and that spell was broken in the last two years when they were held back to lift the title. After just two seasons they showed what are they capable of and were dominant with 18 points advantage at the top of the table. They had only one defeat and lost only to second-placed PAOK.
Pedro Martins men also got a decent European campaign. In the Champions League's main group they had very difficult rivals as PSG Tottenham or Red Star Belgrade but managed to be third and reach the next stage of the Europa League. In a 1-1 draw vs Tottenham, they showed they deserved to be among the elite but as many times before their form and results as the visiting team was bad until the extraordinary win vs Arsenal at the Emirates in February.
They have lost only three times since December in 35 games and their confidence is on the top level. They will be without center-back Ruben Semedo, as was mentioned before, he was sent off during the first half of the first leg so Pape Abou Cisse could be their only change from the first leg.

Both teams have coaches that want to mastermind opponents so it could be a clash of the very strict tactical orders. Wolves are not in a good state of mind because the end of the Premier League was not so good and in the next transfer window they must choose will they capitalize on few players and earn big money or try to make a team that could reach eventually the Champions League through league games.
It is a popular opinion that despite tough rivals and draw because in the next round they could meet Sevilla or Roma, the path to Champions League through the next games is easier than through Premier League so they are focused to reach as far as they can in remaining games.
Wolves are big favorites and could win this match with a clean sheet. Jimenez is eager to score after just two goals in the last six Wolves games.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
